Don't expect to be able to use the same rich creams you were using in winter when it comes to June, July and August. The summer months require a variety of beauty swaps to adapt your skin to the warmer weather, and keep it healthy and radiant all summer long.

Moisturiser for SPF

This is perhaps the most important summer beauty swap you can make if you want to protect your skin against cell ageing.

SPF is an absolute essential all year round, but especially during the warmer weather. Instead of applying both a moisturiser and then a suncream on top, opt for an all-in-one, which will also help to reduce the risk of your pores clogging and your skin breaking out. Try the Alpha-H Daily Essential Moisturiser, which has an SPF 50 to shield your skin against UV damage. It can replace your daily moisturiser, and even though it has incredible SPF protection, won't leave the traditional white cast from suncream on your skin.

Or, if you suffer from sensitised skin and are worried about changing your moisturiser, try SPF booster drops. Dermalogica's Solar Defense Booster has an SPF 50 and can be added to your regular cream without blocking your pores.

Make sure you keep your SPF topped up with a lightweight mist throughout the day too. La Roche-Posay's Anthelios Face Mist has an SPF 50, but is also non-comedogenic to prevent blemishes, and has an ultra-dry finish so you don't feel it being applied. Plus, it can be used over makeup, genius.

Lip Glosses for Coloured Balms

The shine in a gloss can actually reflect sunlight pretty well, which can lead to your delicate lips burning. To help prevent this, choose SPF lip products as your base, then apply a tinted balm over the top if you want a little colour.

Eve Lom's Kiss Mixes all contain Zinc Oxide, which acts as a natural sunscreen agent to shield your skin against UV damage, while the range now includes tinted shades if you want some colour too.

If you love a punchier balm, which you can slick on without using your fingers, the Clinique Chubby Sticks are our absolute classic favourites. They glide on easily and contain conditioning Vitamin E to keep your lips soft through all that sun, sea and sand.

Foundation for Tinted Moisturiser

This might sound like an obvious one, but the sheer amount of people still using foundation in the summer and on holiday is staggering.

When it's warmer weather, you need to switch your foundation to a lighter tinted moisturiser or BB cream to help minimise breakouts and keep your skin healthy. Foundation is like a blanket for your complexion, and while it's great for covering all manner of imperfections, when mixed with heat and sweat, is a hotbed for spots showing their heads.

Opt for something which has coverage but also contains SPF to help keep your skin protected. Chantecaille's Just Skin is an industry favourite and has an SPF 15 to shied your skin against environmental aggressors, such as UV damage.

If you still feel like you need a little extra coverage, try using a lightweight concealer such as the Stila Aqua Glow Serum. It will flawlessly cover dark circles and imperfections, whilst also adding a lovely radiance to the skin to keep the complexion glowing and healthy.

Cream Cleanser for Purifying Cleanser

Cream cleansers are great to use on summer mornings when your skin needs a gentle dose of cleanliness, but for a day after the beach or an evening wearing makeup in the summer heat, your skin needs something a little stronger.

Purifying cleansers which deep cleanse and pull out the impurities, help to minimise the risk of breakouts and keep your skin clear and healthy throughout the summer months. Look out for ingredients like Clay and botanical extracts such as Algae, which offer a deep cleansing action without compromising on the moisture levels in your skin.

Estée Lauder's Nutritious Cleansing Jelly is excellent as it feels super cooling on the skin after a day in the sun, but also uses unique biotechnology to remove impurities, dirt, oil and suncream from the skin. The result is a beautifully soft, cleansed and luminous complexion.

If you prefer to use a clay based cleanser, try the Dermalogica Dermal Clay. It contains Menthol to cool warm skin, and also helps to keep the skin free from impurities and breakouts.
