How to Choose the Right Concealer

How to Choose the Right Concealer

The first step to flawless looking concealer is making sure you have the right one for you. There are lots of different formulas and finishes that work differently and we’re sharing the differences between them so you can choose what works best for you.

The Different Types of Concealer

For the ultimate concealer kit, choose one of each coverage level so that you’re ready for anything your skin can throw at you.

High Coverage Concealer

The thicker the formula, generally the higher the coverage. The richest and most pigmented concealers tend to be in cream and stick forms.

These often dry down to a fairly matte finish, with intense pigmentation. They offer incredible coverage for everything from spots to tattoos, but they can be a little drying and difficult to blend.

Some of of our favourites are the Vichy Dermablend Corrective Stick, the Little Amazing Concealer and the Shiseido Perfecting Stick Concealer– these are all incredibly rich and cover everything.

For drier skin types the Laura Geller Real Deal Concealer has a more fluid formula but still offers intense coverage.

Medium Coverage Concealer

Most medium coverage concealers tend to be in soft pencil, liquid and serum formulas. They are ideal for under the eyes, covering blemishes and covering any redness.

These medium coverage concealers tend to feel more hydrating and are much easier to blend out. Look for those with doe-foot applicators for easy on the go application.

We love the bareMinerals bareSkin Serum Concealer and the Bourjois Radiance Reveal Concealer for a really natural finish, whilst the NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer is a cult-classic. If you want precise application, the Nudestix Concealer Pencils are incredible.

Light Coverage Concealer

The lightest coverage concealers tend to have very fluid, radiant formulations, often with brush or pen applicators.

These are often best for helping to brighten under eyes and subtly even out the skin tone, but can struggle with covering up blemishes effectively. These are ideal if you have naturally clear skin but want to fight any signs of fatigue.

Some our favourites are the Zelens Active Concealer, the Clinique Airbrush Concealer and the L’Oréal Paris Lumi Magique Highlighter.
