Pro In The Know: How Do You Banish Dark Circles?

Coming into the colder months, your skin can really suffer, and coupled with extreme fatigue and various cold viruses flying around, your eyes can be the first to show the signs with dark circles.

We caught up with Avène’s Training Expert, Imane to discuss how best to keep your eyes looking bright all winter season long…

How Do I Get Rid Of Dark Circles?

First, the skin around the eye is very fine: 4 times thinner than on the chin! Also, this area continually suffers from the muscular contractions produced by our 10,000 blinks a day! The skin is pushed and pulled damaging the elastin and collagen fibres of the dermis. Finally, blood circulation in the eye contour area is considered to be sluggish. One out of three vessels is inactive! As a result, the blood stagnates and lacks oxygen.

In order to counter dark circles, you need to look for decongesting, detoxifying active ingredients. The Avène Soothing Eye Contour contains our signature Avène Thermal Spring Water, renowned for its soothing anti-irritating properties as well as Dextran Sulphate. Thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties as well as its ability to activate microcirculation, Dextran Sulphate is a powerful decongesting agent, which helps to reduce puffiness and dark circles under the eyes.

How Do I Apply Eye Cream?

We recommend applying Soothing Eye Contour Cream by dabbing from the inside corner to the outside corner of the eye, to detoxify at the same time. In the case of irritated or dry eyelids, finish off by smoothing the upper eyelid.

In order to respect the fragility of the eye contour area, apply the product with the ring finger which exerts less pressure than the index.

I am a big believer in the idea that beautiful Make Up begins with a superb skincare regime. I like to enhance my natural beauty rather than cover up and I am always on the lookout for great products which really work. When I am not writing about all things beauty, I like to do Yoga and I make an amazing brownie. It is all about balance!
