THE Skincare Routine | Prepare!

Prep your skin for deep cleaning with our perfect skincare routine!

If you are struggling with your skincare routine and just cannot get your head around the myriad of products on the market then you do not need to look any further. Summer skin can be damaged, dry and congested from UV rays, chlorine and heat. Every week I get a mountain of emails asking about the optimal skincare routine, so I decided to share my knowledge and hopefully make things a little bit easier.  So to start, we need to prepare our skin and this stage can be divided in to 4 easy steps.

Step number one: Pre-Cleanse

This basically prepares our skin for the night routine – I like to use an oil based cleanser to get rid of any makeup to reveal the skin for a proper cleanse. This part of the skincare routine is extremely important as it cleans your skin, ready for the other products to absorb themselves and work to their optimal level.

My Favourites: Eve Lom Cleanser , Elemis Pro-Collagen Cleanser

This step is to get rid of all impurities and any build-up of bacteria, excess oils, dirt and harmful particles.  You can use any cleanser which is specific to your skins need.  Most people prefer to use something foaming as it mentally makes you believe you are actually washing your face – or maybe that’s just me.

My Favourites: Caudalie Instant Foaming Cleansing, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Purifying Cleansing Gel

This is to give your skin a deep clean and get rid of anything that could be blocking your pores.  Exfoliating also helps to promote skin rejuvenation by removing dead skin cells so new skin can develop underneath.  You don’t have to exfoliate daily as this will change with skin type.  Generally 2-3 times a week is enough for oily and normal skin types, whereas those with dry skin can increase this to 4-5 times a week.  Try not to use a lot of pressure as soft gentle circular motions achieve the best results.

My Favourites: Dermalogica Multivitamin Thermafoliant, Murad AHA/BHA Exfoliating Cleanser

10362440-2194294332768639Step number four: Toning

Toning is often one of the most forgotten steps, however it couldn’t be more essential in your skincare routine. This not only removes the remains of the earlier three steps, but also helps to balance the pH of your skin.  It also helps to soothe, nourish and hydrate your skin whilst reducing the appearance of your pores.

My Favourites: Vichy Purete Thermale Perfecting Toner, Elemis Rehydrating Ginseng Toner

Now that your skin in all prepped and clean, we can move onto Stage two : The Treatments
