We've seen the trend for metallics everywhere and with Christmas Party Season in full swing, this is a look we absolutely adore. We're sharing some of our favourite products as well as the best ways to wear the look this Christmas.

Gold eye makeup can be done so many ways, from a subtle inner corner highlight to full metallic lids and statement eyeliner, from icy pale champagnes to rich yellow golds. Every look just needs a different product to make it work.

Choosing the Right Shade

There is a gold for everyone. Icy pale golds look incredible against blue eyes, whilst warm, bold golds make a statement against darker eyes. If you have a touch of green in your eyes, the rich golds will help bring that out.

For a pale gold illuminator, the RMS Living Luminizer gives a beautiful subtle shimmer. As a richer tone, we love the NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Himali; when used wet it gives a pure slick of metal to the lids.

Go Subtle

Just a little hint of gold can be ever so pretty; these are the subtle ways to make a nod to the trend.

As a highlight, take any light gold shadow like the NARS Shimmer Eyeshadow in Cyprus and focus it on the inner corners of the eyes- creams or shadows work well, just keep the application light and focussed.

For the subtlest look, use a fluffy brush and apply a powder eyeshadow like the gorgeous gold in Estée Lauder's Fierce Safari palette over the lids. It'll give a sheer wash of gold that is the perfect addition to a festive bold lip.

Creamy shadows can also be lovely to blend out over the lid; sweep on and buff out to add a hint of colour. Our go-to is the Pixi Last Shadow Pen in Gentle Gold.

Go Bold

If you want to go all out, then the selection of bold gold shadows around right now are just perfect.

For a really intense look go for a cream shadow and layer it up with a pure pigment. We're obsessed with combining NARS' Cosmetic Eye Paint in Iskander and the Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Fortune; it gives a rich, long-lasting shimmer that would be worthy of Cleopatra!

A great way to incorporate gold is by swapping out your usual eyeliner for a gold version; it is a gorgeous way to put a spin on a classic look. We love the Ciaté Wonderwand Eye Liner in Champagne for a pure gold but for a dark, bold liner that shimmers with gold, look no further than Stila's Magnificent Metal Eyeliner in Black Gold.

Pair it Well

We love that gold eye makeup is such a versatile look. It sounds dramatic but actually it works like a neutral, pairing perfectly with a host of looks.

For cool girl chic, go with icy highlights, contoured cheekbones and tousled hair; it looks beautifully effortless and radiant.

For a festive look, we love a classic red lip paired with a rich gold shadow on the lids. It shimmers and shines in just the right way.

For a more avant-garde look, keep skin super bare and go all out with the gold eyeliner, making the focus be on just the gold.

For the most pretty, feminine look, go for warmer shades of gold and use them to contour and define the eye. Paired with flushed cheeks and glossy lips, it makes golds work beautifully for everyday.

Whichever look you go for, they won't be able to take their eyes off you this party season.

Major fan of scented candles, Make Up brushes and Highlighter. I’m always on the hunt for those Holy Grail products and my dressing table is covered in more beauty products than I like to admit. As an adopted Northerner originally from Brighton, I spend most my days wondering what all this rain is about. My hair isn’t grateful for the move. Currently loving: NIOD Photography Fluid
