| Keep your skin A1 at all times with these
simple skincare tips from Men’s Health’s Grooming Editor, Lee
Kynaston |
|
| 1. Shave after a shower.
Not only will the water have softened your bristles by almost 70%
after just two minutes, the steam will have opened pores, helping
rid the skin of surface dirt and impurities. Try
Maximum
Comfort Shave Gel or Mega
Foam Shave or Razor
Burn Relief. |
| 2. Go with the grain. Shaving
against the direction of hair growth is one of the quickest ways to
end up with razor burn, redness and ingrown hairs so always shave
with the direction of hair growth. Since the toughest whiskers grow
on the chin and around the lips leave these bits until last. That
way they’ll have had more time to soften up. Try
Razor
Burn Relief or Triple
Benefit Post Shave Remedy. |
| 3. Scrub up nicely.
Not only will exfoliation with a facial scrub keep skin free of debris,
grime and pore-blocking dead skin cells, it’ll also help prevent
painful ingrown hairs. Don’t rub too hard though – you’re
not sanding down a skirting board! Try
Invigorating
Face Scrub or
Multi-Action Face Wash. |
| 4. Moisturise. Dry
skin is skin that’s prone to premature ageing so use a moisturiser
morning and night to keep it plump and supple. And neck 6-8 glasses
of water a day to keep skin hydrated from within. Try
Daily
Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 15 or Night
Recovery Lotion. |
| 5. Ditch the sugar.
The sweet stuff attaches itself to the proteins that form elastin
and collagen – two of the building blocks of your skin –
making them weaker and speeding up the advance of wrinkles.
|
|
| 6. Keep your eye cream in the fridge.
If it’s slightly chilled it’ll be
even more effective at shrinking your ‘occular luggage’.
Place a small blob the size of a grain of rice around each eye socket
and pat in gently to stimulate detoxification.
Try Instant
Moisture Eye Gel or Age
Rescue Eye Therapy. |
| 7. Factor up.
With up to 80% of all wrinkles thought to be the result of sun damage
(and even minute amounts of sunlight causing DNA damage) it really
pays to use a moisturiser like Lab Series’ Daily
Moisture Defense Lotion SPF 15 which has a built-in sunscreen.
|
| 8. Mask your problems.
A weekly face mask is a great way of giving skin a deep-down detox.
Go for clay-based ones (which are better at absorbing excess oil)
and for maximum effectiveness apply after prepping the skin with a
face scrub. Try Purifying
Clay Mask or Instant
Moisture Mask. |
| 9. Outsmart oil.
Men’s skin is oilier than women’s but you don’t
have to grin and bear the grease. Avoid hot water, over-washing and
rubbing too hard (all of which can stimulate oil production) and tailor
your grooming routine to the needs of your skin by using products
from the Lab Series Oil Control range. Try
Oil
Control Face Wash or Oil
Control Daily Hydrator. |
| 10. ‘C’ sense! Vitamin
C is a potent antioxidant, crucial for fighting the toxic free radicals
linked with the ageing process and for maintaining skin’s elasticity.
So feed your face by stocking up on spuds, cabbage and peppers and
other good sources like oranges and blackcurrants. |
