Most British men would choose floppy-haired TV host Jonathan Ross or comedian Ricky Gervais if they could have any celeb guest at this year's Christmas work bash, it has emerged.

While the nation's ladies fret about not looking glamorous enough at their do, research by the British Greyhound Racing Board suggests beauty du jour Cheryl Cole would also rank highly on blokes' list of dream guests.

Big-haired scandal merchant Russell Brand is a favourite among both genders - possibly because men and women alike are fascinated by his gravity-defying barnet and androgynous style.

Jo Hemmings, a behavioural psychologist, says work parties are dreaded by a lot of people - because of aesthetic considerations as well as the pressure to "be social" with colleagues you have little in common with.

"Feeling like a fish out of water and the general pressure to have a good time and look great [mean] they don't want to be dancing and look like a fool," remarks the Big Brother's Little Brother expert.

They could be losing out though - dance expert Dawn DeMendonca has previously advised blokes that a regular boogie can be just the thing to shift a beer belly or even the dreaded moobs.
