im writing this review as i bough the tin set for christmas, thsi is the new improved extreme and mostt of the reviews are very old going with old extreme, it is ok shampoo and conditioner but not the best for me, ive tried many but go back to joico and paul mitchell strength, and this does have sodium lauryl sulpahte in not as stated by one review, ive used a couple of times with good results but does leave hair bit frizzy,and one time tangled and stcky so bit put of using it myself .. but everyone has different types of damage so dont be put off by an review .. revews are of that individuals outcome !

Am always switching haircare trying to improve my long, fine, dry, frizzy, coloured hair. This and the conditioner have made such a difference in a week. My hair looks so much better and it looks thicker. I haven't even had to blow dry - it looks fine left to dry naturally. Great for straightened hair !

I highlight by blonde hair, and straighten it every day, have been using this product for ages and am truly shocked by some of the bad reviews, it's great, i shampoo twice but so do all professional hairdressers..!! My hair is now healthy, stronger and looks smooth thanks to this, most of my friends use this as well, with the extreme conditioner and anti-snap serum. Was recommended by my hairdresser as my hair was breaking. Have tried others, inc the Kerastase range, but always come back to Redken Extreme.

It isn't supposed to lather much!!!

Having read the reviews on this page, I am disappointed to see most people insisting on a lather. This product is NOT supposed to lather up, as it is specially formulated to cleanse without the lather. The lather you get in most shampoos is given by the addition of salt. Sodium chloride. Redken does add this but in very small quantities because the hair has only 3% moisture and cannot take overloads of salt. Your normal lathery shampoo causes split ends and dry hair. (Salt is the thickening agent in most shampoos and big bubbly lather is BAD! A shame Look Fantastic is selling this wonderful product without advice because it is truly one of the most wonderful products on the market today. I was a trichologist for 30 years and used it in all my salons, but it needs to be shown how to use and told what to expect when treating your hair. You need very little of any of the Redken products and so they should last a very long time and offer fantastic value for money. I am not anything to do with Look Fantastic or Redken but I do know my products and the people who have submitted reviews on this page have sadly not known how to use Redken. This is how it should be used: Wet hair, add a 10 pence piece amount of shampoo and work in from root to end. It does not lather much so do not expect it, rinse and repeat if necessary.Use a moisturiser (conditioner) that corresponds with the shampoo on towel dried hair and use sparingly, about an inch or less and whip up in dry hands, leave in for 2 minutes and rinse out unless it is a leave in. If your hair is greasy at the root and dry on ends, do not put on the roots, just the ends.Blow dry as normal. Follow this and you will have no more split ends, and silky shiny hair you have always dreamed of.All Redken products were created in the US by Gerry Redding in 1970 and who is still the leader in this field. He has since created Nexxus after his ex wife sold his Redken formula to L'Oreal when they divorced. His wife is/was the actress Paula Kent, hence RedKen.

I use the shampoo & conditioner in this range, it smells lovely and keeps my long, thick, dry hair looking and feeling soft and shiny! I notice the difference if I don't use them!

Lather doesn't mean clean....

I am rather disappointed by the other reviews of this product on this site. If you want lather - buy a cheap supermarket brand shampoo they are full of lathering ingredients. If you want a shampoo that does exactly what it says - i.e. cleans, nourishes and strengthens your hair then this is the product for you. I blow dry my hair, I colour my hair and I straighten my hair. Because of this product and other extreme products from Redken, you would never know. Brilliant product, fantastic results.

Regarding Other Posts - Shampoo Doesnt Lather Because...

My hairdresser told me that good shampoos do not lather! Shampoos that are usually cheaper and bought out of shops etc lather because of something called Sodium Lauryl Sulphate which is bad for your hair. This is why this shampoo doesnt lather! Redken, Aveda & Molton Brown are more expensive but much better for your hair! Shampoos with Sodium Lauryl Sulphate are like shampooing your hair with washing up liquid! They are too harsh for your hair and strip the colour and moisture from it! 10/10 for Redken!

I like this one along with the conditioner(and im a product-junkie). I have fine dry and damaged hair. I use this in periodes, when my hair is in a bad shape. Dont recommend using it all the time. Love the smell ! Reduced split ends on my hair. I also love "anti-snap".

Brilliant!

I got this shampoo and it lathered for me, so I don't know what everyone is talking about here. Hair was abit matted after using it, but then my hair usually is. I then used the CAT protein treatment, left it in for an hour and then used the Smooth Down Butter Treat, my hair was perfect afterwards, it was so soft like a new born babies, can't stop touching it. It is important to remember that you HAVE to use a good deep conditioner after using protein treatments!

great for fine hair

brilliant product that smells gorgeous; yes it doesn't lather much but good shampoo shouldn't; its the soap in shampoo that makes it lather and really good shampoos don't use much soap hence no lather! works brilliantly on my fine hair and the only shampoo i know that makes it feel thicker - extreme deep fuel is also amazing!

Obviously this shampoo didn't quite lather in other users' hair. Well, I don't know what's wrong with my hair, because this product lathered immediately like a normal shampoo! Smells delicious and leaves my hair clean. My hair also looks healthier and softer after using Redken Extreme shampoo with Extreme conditioner. I'm hooked and extremely happy!

Bleached, processed hair? This shampoo is for you!!

After only using the product for a few weeks, I can already feel the difference. You do need a large amount to produce a lather - especially if you have long and/or thick hair but the results are amazing. I feel as though I've been to the hairdressers when using the shampoo (and conditioner). It makes your hair smell lovely and you are able to notice the difference from the first wash. I have been bleaching, highlighting my hair since the age of 16 and it is pretty wrecked but from using this product every 2 days, I can already see great results!

Great for distressed hair!

My hair is long and my hairdresser said "in bad condition" so she recommended this range. I used this shampoo, the CAT, and the conditioner. I am very pleased. The range smells good, the shampoo lathers a lot (I don't get that it doesen't??) and my hair is smoother and doesen't tangle nearly as much as it used to. I will continue using these until fall, when my hairdresser said I was going to need more moisture instead! :) Thanks Redken!

After years of using poor quality shampoo (mainly due to not having money), over processing my hair with straighteners, curling tongs and such like, this product has been a life saver.It has always lathered first time for me, either people that say it doesnt lather for them obviously do not know how to use the product, or are using the wrong sort of product for their hair type.Redken has a great reputation and im never going to look back to other products again.I hardly ever use straighteners anymore and my hair is in as great condition as what it can be after using the products.Thank you Redken!!

Got to be the best.

I had this use at Burlingtons in London and purchased it in the salon. I have now purchased it a lot cheaper from lookfantastic and it has got to be the best shampoo around.I love it, it tames my frizzy hair and your hair needs washed less frequently. The bottle lasts well and is well worth the price.

Different product works for different hair type, for me - with bleached blond fine hair - this product line is still the best even after trying out so many others, it works so much better than the Aveda Damage Remedy range on my hair.

Fantastic

This is great, my hair has grown and my hairdresser says it is so much healthier, been using this for about two years now. It lathers on the first wash if your hair is wet first, but most good hairdressers recommend shampooing twice anyway to get really clean hair. My hair is straightened every day and this along with the conditioner and the Extreme Rescue Force once a month, keeps it looking great and healthy. Would definitely recommend.

I was reading all the reviews here before I purchased this shampoo and had settled whit the thought that this shampoo didn't lather, but I was very positively surprised, because it's no different from other shampoos in that way. And it smells GREAT! Hair feels soft too. I will purchase this again.

No need for conditioner

I couldn't wait to try this product, however forgot to read all your reviews... I agree that it certainly had no lather, however I found it had a type of serum feel to it and didn't actually need to use a conditioner. I have very fine hair so maybe its best suited for fine.

Love the smell and the way my hair feels after I have been using it! And it DOES lather, you just have to use a small amount of shampoo and then rince, repeat and it lathers at least as much as the Redken Color extend shampoo.(Have to use this twice to make it lather too)

I love this shampoo, it smells great and has made my coloured hair a lot stronger and healthier. I agree that it doesn't lather as much as other shampoos, but that is not essential anyway! Just because a shampoo doesn't lather that much does not make it any worse than those that do..it is purely a myth that shampoo needs to go frothy!! This shampoo is amazing and used with the conditioner my hair has never been in such good condition.

I have three colours put through my hair, including blonde, it was extremely processed and dry and this product did the trick, OK so it doesn't lather but you need to wash it once and then the second time it will lather up fine! My hair is in great condition because of this shampoo, excellent!

Being a hairdresser myself, I can say that a lather is NOT needed to make a shampoo great. The lather in ANY shampoo does next to NOTHING, as it is not the bubbles that clean your hair, (think about it, what could they POSSIBLY do?) it's the product itself that does the cleansing. Just make sure you have it evenly applied.Don't listen to the people that complain that this doesn't lather, and have WASTED lots on a great shampoo, thinking that they need a lather. This is one of the best shampoos for DAMAGED hair. Leave this shampoo on for a minute if you have pretty damaged hair. This is NOT designed specifically for dry hair. If you have dry hair, try the All Soft range or Clear Moisture range.'Nother thing. If you find that this shampoo leaves your hair a bit 'puggy' ('cause of the high protein values), make sure that you comb on a conditioner thoroughly with a WIDE tooth comb and leave on for about 5 mins. Rinse, and comb through with a wide comb again :) I LOVE the Extreme conditioner, REEEEALLY nice :)Definate thumbs up for this product! :)Gosh, could I BE more of a product junkie :S

Love it!

It's the greatest shampoo I've ever used. Makes my hair smell nice, and cleanses without irritating the scalp. It's really good for sensitive scalps and damaged hair. I use it with the "extreme" conditioner and together they work magic with my incredibly tangly hair.AND! One bottle lasts 6 months!

REDKEN EXTREME RANGE

I have used the Shampoo , Conditioner and intensive conditioner in this range due to overcolouring my very fine hair. i find it leaves my hair dry and tangled.Very overated and am using Tigi Bedhead Moisture Maniac and Aveda Damage Remedy ranges now as they are both far better.
