Excellent introduction to the 'world' of Amouage fragrance

The Amouage fragrance sample collection for men comes in a very well made, handsome box with magnetic closure. The glass sample vials are well presented with golden caps. The presentation is very professional. Regarding the fragrances, my favourite is Memoir Man. This is the only sample with black lettering, all the rest are gold. The absinthe opening (along with pink pepper, that I find I like) demands my attention, and the deepening wood and leather provides contrast as time passes. Almost all of these fragrances have frankincense. Honour Man has the peppers and geranium. It's more 'feminine' but soon develops with the cedarwood, tonka bean and elemi adding masculinity. Interlude Man has a pimento berry opening that I don't care for. But once the leather and smoke starts to dominate this becomes far more agreeable. This one takes time for me to appreciate. Epic Man - a descriptive name! Pink pepper (that I've already said I like), yes and geranium, but the leather and oud make this masculine and multi-dimensional. Gold - women like this. Quite a floral opening, but once the civet and musk demand attention this goes from pussycat to tiger. Reflection - I like this, as the pepper gives way to ylang ylang and neroli. I would have expected to like it less, however the patchouli and sandalwood add weight to the fragrance. It has freshness without 'citrus'. I wore this to work and received compliments from a couple of women. Jubilation XXV - Bewildering is a good description for Jubilation XXV, it is a complex fragrance. Recommended if you like oud! Lyric Man - the citrus elements aren't so noticeable to me, but the rose is. This one takes even more time to enjoy than Interlude Man as I'm not a huge fan of the pine note. Not one I'd immediately reach for. Beloved - The grapefruit is good, not sharp as I expected (for me at least). It develops a woody, musky note that's pleasing without demanding your attention. Fate - I like this one for the liquorice! The opening of ginger and the base that includes tonka bean works for me too. Unlike Memoir Man which was an immediate hit, this one takes a little time, but I really enjoy it. Journey - On a test strip this smells amazing, but on my skin the pepper, bergamot and tonka almost disappear, leaving me with tobacco. I like tobacco, but it's slightly infuriating that for me the notes that compliment it so well die away so quickly. Myths. The set description mentions 'Dia', which I did not receive and would have liked to try. However, Myths is a new (2016) fragrance from Amouage and surprises are to be welcomed. From what I've heard, some people didn't like Myths. It has top notes of chrysanthemum. My father used to grow chrysanthemums, so this immediately gives pleasant nostalgic memories. I detect perhaps a hint of rum, but it's the well worn leather and the dry ash base notes that I smell. Like waking up in an old leather chair in front of a fire that's gone out. A great selection. None of the samples are unpleasant and there are at least two outright winners. If you're curious about Amouage, it's a great way to find your fragrance.
