Leighton Denny Top That Gel System

This is almost as good as a salon gel and very easy to use. It's lasted about ten days so far with only a couple of very small chips and I've done everything as normal. Usually my polish only lasts a couple of days. Very pleased with product and have recommended it to all my friends.

It's OK I have only used it twice but have only got 4 days before nails chipping which is better then my usual day but not two weeks. It's a long process to not last a week with taking off and redoing will persevere a bit longer

This is a kit to turn normal nail varnish into gel varnish without the time and expense. Ive only used it the once (so far) and found it really easy to use. You start by preparing your nails (the kit comes with a 'cleaner' and a cuticle 'push backer'. After this, you put your chosen nail varnish on as normal. I chose a cheap brand, which can actually start flaking within 24 hours, to see how well it would work. Once i had done 2 coats, i used the special varnish included in the set and then placed my nails under the special uv light for 2 minutes. Thats it, similar to gel nails in a shop, but quick and easy at home. So, using the machine was fine, now its the wait, to see if it does last for the 'up to 2 weeks' as it claims on the box. Well, its not been 2 weeks yet (just over a week) and the fact i used cheap nail varnish, im very impressed. There is a bit of chipping at the tops of the nails, but its the type of chipping i notice, but unless someone took your hand and looked, i dont think its that noticable! I have not tried to remove it yet, im hoping it will be easier to remove than salon gel nails. Is it as good as salon gel nails, no, which is why it got a 4 star rating - however, for home based nail care, especially with cheap varnish its much more than adequate - i will be using again, and i would suspect with better quality varnish, it might last longer.

I have to be honest, I’m the kind of girl who doesn’t really care much for her nails. Luckily, because of this exact reason, my nails aren’t in too bad a condition, especially against my mum who is having constant treatment on hers to no avail. This issue with my nails are that they have recently started peeling, as far as I’m aware, that’s down to the weather changes as it’s never happened before. This means that if I grow them too long they start to split and peel and become very thin and soft. So I needed a treatment. I am a huge fan of Leighton denny already, the colours are gorgeous and have started to build a vast collection. Unfortunately the colours don’t provide the nutrients needed to cure my nails. That’s where this kit became centre point. You will already be aware of the products within the kit from the description so I shall just detail my experience with each item. First off the cuticle push and nail scraper: I love this tool! I find it increasingly annoying once you’ve filed your nails down to remove any excess that has gone under the nail, this tool is perfect for this, not only because the angle is precise and the material is sturdy, but because the actual length of the tool makes it perfect to hold. The cuticle push is also great, the rubber material allows you to be firm without damaging the cuticle, though I didn’t have great use for this. Buffer and Shiner: This is astonishing. I never expected a block of material to work so well. The buffer and shiner are numbered so you know which order to proceed. The buffer is first, to be used to smooth down the nail bed, it really does work. As I said, I have peeling nails, therefore they’re very uneven especially near the tips, using the buffer not only smooth’s the surface, but if I notice my nail might peel I buff it down and it works wonders. The shiner is great too but requires a little more work to get the desired effect. The Top-coat and LED light: On the packaging it has instruction on how to get the effect with the gel nail kit. Firstly I used an undercoat, a standard one as It didn’t specify and I’m sure it’s not a necessity but I was using a dark colour. Once dry I applied my nail colour (first time, it was a standard nail colour), I again allowed that to dry and then applied the top coat. Now, the top-coat is incredibly gloopy and the trick is to not put a massive layer on because once it hits that LED light, it hardens as it was put on. Meaning, any excess that you thought you could take off once you’ve finished…you can’t. It goes rock hard, also if there are any ridges or the coat is uneven, it will also dry that way. The first time I learnt the hard way. The second time I used a gel colour with the gel topcoat with an under base. After 2 minutes (4 intervals each) on the LED light, your nails will be done however they will still be sticky, that’s what the cleaner is for. A sturdy once over with that and you’ll have rock hard glossy nails. …Which last a day or two at least. The first time I tried this set I assumed maybe because I used a standard nail colour that it just didn’t meld and the nail varnish chipped on the ends and peeled straight off. The second time even though all I’d done from doing them to the next chipping was sleep. A day after and again they began to chip. Weirdly the nail varnish is pretty strong. If you accidentally smudged your nail or like myself began painting and got it everywhere, a quick sweep of nail varnish and they look brand new again, still glossy, still all colour, not chips or smudges. I’m starting to think the peeling may have something to do with having a base coat as I rarely use one and only having started now have I noticed the peeling. An issue that arose was that there aren’t any instructions for how to remove the gel varnish. Lucky for me, but not so for my nails, it peeled straight off but to do that constantly would be harsh on my nails.

In a nutshell you can basically use this quick and easy system to turn any of your nail shades into super long lasting gel polishes. This really excited me as usually you have to buy actual gel colours that are compatible with your chosen system and you have to cure the polish at each application. The Leighton Denny Top That Gel System stops all that faff and expensive time consuming trips to the nail salon. My nails looked fabulous after a week and only the very slightest wear and tear after two. This is pretty good indeed considering I'm a busy Mum of two adventuring little dudes. The range of gel effect nail polishes are gawjuss and give a super glossy, healthy finish. This is the perfect at home solution for busy ladies who don't have the time / pennies for salon treatments.
