Originating in Denmark, it’s a lifestyle the Danes are crazy for, and it’s not hard to see why. Hygge, in short, focuses on feeling as content and comfortable as possible. Who doesn’t want that? (plus, the Danes are consistently voted the happiest people in the world…perhaps it’s time the rest of us join them!)
Pronounced “hoo-gah”, it sounds very much like the English word ‘hug’ – which is exactly what Hygge strives to be, an all-encompassing hug to yourself (without the physical touch!) Think a cup of coffee by the fire, dinner with friends, or a glass of red wine whilst reading your favourite book. Hygge is all about bettering your mental and physical well-being by feeling as cosy as possible, embracing the small pleasures in life that very often pass us by.
