The Benefits Of Coconut Oil

Coconut oil is loved by celebrities and models alike for its hydrating properties that leave the skin, hair and body super soft, nourished and healthy.

Coconuts themselves are full of fatty acids, which help to repair dehydrated skin by trapping water in the skins cells so it can’t escape. This helps to stop dry patches in their tracks and prevent skin from cracking or becoming damaged. It works in a similar way to your hair too; by nourishing the hair fibres to prevent split ends and water loss.

There are a number of ways in which you can incorporate Coconut Oil into your beauty routine, and we have selected our favourite products to help you get your island fix…

For Your Hair

The benefits of Coconut Oil for your hair are endless. It is a deeply nourishing oil due to the fact that it contains a high amount of fatty acids that penetrate deep into the hair shaft. It is great to use an an intensive or overnight treatment so it can work for longer and give you super soft locks. Make sure you wash out thoroughly in the morning, as because it is an oil, it can be slightly heavy on the hair so use a purifying shampoo to make sure you rid the hair of all the product.

Ojon’s Voluimizing Shampoo, which gives bounce and lightweight softness to the hair. The Coconut Oil feeds the hair with hydration and helps to boost its radiance and shine.

For a more intensive leave-in treatment, opt for the Mizani 25 Miracle Milk, which helps to protect the hair from environmental aggressors and heat damage, whilst also adding incredible shine and gloss.

For a summer treat, opt for Alterna’s Bamboo Beach Summer Ocean Waves, which helps to protect your hair from UV damage and give you beautifully tousled hair.

For Your Skin

Coconut Oil is brilliant at repairing dry and dehydrated skin to leave it feeling soft, healthy and conditioned. However, it should be noted that anyone who is prone to congestion or breakouts should stay away from it due to the fact it is quite a high-comedogenic ingredient; meaning it can block pores in people susceptible to blemishes. To get around this, we recommend using products that feature Coconut Oil low down on their ingredients list.

The First Aid Beauty Milk Cleanser is formulated with a blend of Coconut Oil and Avocado to banish dry skin and leave your complexion feeling touchably soft and healthy. As the Coconut Oil doesn’t feature at the top of the ingredients list, it’s great for all skin types.

To take care of your eyes, add the Balance Me Wonder Eye Cream into your routine. The formula feels lightweight yet deeply nourishes the eye area to banish dark circles, fine lines and signs of fatigue.

To keep your skin hydrated, add the Living Nature Sensitive Night Cream into your regime, which contains Coconut Oil and Glycerin to target dryness and damage.

For Your Body

Coconut Oil is absolutely brilliant for your body as it nourishes deep into the cells to intensely hydrate and moisturise. It also smells absolutely divine and will leave your skin beautifully fragranced and smelling like a tropical breeze! You can apply pure Coconut Oil directly, but we find it sinks much better into the skin when it is formulated within a product. This is because in its raw form, it can leave a greasy film on the skin, which isn’t pleasant at all!

For the summer, add the Fake Bake Flawless Coconut Face and Body Tanning Serum into your routine. It gives you a lovely golden glow, and contains nourishing ingredients to condition your skin and prevent your tan from going patchy.

As soon as you step out the shower, slather your body in the Jason Smoothing Coconut Lotion, which is made with natural ingredients for a hydrated and healthy finish.

Don’t forget to take care of your feet either with Burt’s Bees Coconut Foot Creme! Not only will it hydrate the hard and dry patches on your feet, but will leave them smelling gorgeous.

I like to enhance my natural beauty rather than cover up and I am always on the lookout for great products which really work. When I am not writing about all things beauty, I like to do Yoga and I make an amazing brownie. It is all about balance!
