People heading off on a sunshine holiday should avoid colouring their hair just before they go away, according to a beauty expert.
The Toni&Guy hair trends report for spring and summer 2009 suggested golden blonde and subdued crimson shades were the colours to choose for the warmer weather.
However, beauty writer Zara Rabinowicz warned that those who want to stay on trend should not leave it until just before jetting off for their beach break, as sunlight and seawater can "bleach and fade the colour".
"Aim to have your colour redone at least two weeks before you leave, so the hair isn't stripped and waiting to be damaged," said Ms Rabinowicz.
The expert added that holidaymakers need to take steps to protect their hair from several common causes of damage while away.
