Cosmetic Trend Predictions 2024

Discover our cosmetic trend predictions that are set to take centre-stage in 2024!

Pantone of the Year: Peach Fuzz

A sea of orange, peach and apricot will dominate the beauty-sphere, as this sunset shade has been labelled the 2024 pantone of the year. Sparking connotations of positivity, rejuvenation and warmth, beauty lovers can prepare to experiment with peachy tones through delicate makeupformulations - like blush or liptints - to evoke that feel-good factor. We also predict this pantone will take over the copper hair trend of 2023, as tresses ignite a peach crush inspired by the A/W 23/24 catwalks.

A Hint of Tint

Tinted beauty products are on the rise, redefining the cosmetics industry with innovative blends of skincare and makeup, or multipurpose formulas suitable for lips, cheeks and eyes. Searches on LOOKFANTASTIC containing the word "tint" increased by 81% in the past year with Tinted SPF, Tinted Moisturiser, LipTint and Brow Tint making upthe most popular product types. A worthy contender for the ‘no-makeup’ makeuptrend, tinted formulas are designed to add a hint of colour with a natural-looking finish. Often in lightweight formats - like creams or balms - or made from water-based ingredients to encourage even coverage and luminosity, more consumers are swapping full-coverage foundations and lipsticks for their lightweight counterparts, like CC creams, tinted serums and liptints. These time-saving formulas also offer long-lasting benefits, thanks to the infusion of hydrating and nourishing ingredients that helpto combat common skin concerns like dryness, ageing or blemishes – while some tinted formulas are designed with specific goals in mind, such as redness correction or oil control.

In With the Blue

Following the revival of the Y2K aesthetic, aquamarine makeupwill be the latest colour cosmetic trend making waves in 2024. With Pinterest search demand for blue eyeshadow aesthetic and aqua makeuplook up+65% and +100% respectively, this year marks a surge in pigment-packed palettes and graphic liners that span the colour chart: from tantalising turquoise and electric cobalt to mystic and retro blues. More than just a popof colour, beauty consumers will experiment with blue hues as a marker of self-expression and mood. The trend nods to 1990’s nostalgia through frosted shimmer eyeshadows and flecks of glitter, reflecting the idea of joy and exploring the appeal of reinventing makeuplooks from our youth. Brands will dive into the blue by reformulating bestsellers in this vibrant colourway, while the forward-thinkers are set to break the mould with unexpected formats and playful packaging designed to delight.

The Skinification of LipColour

Lipsticks, balms, glosses and stains are the latest formulations to succumb to the multi-benefit beauty trend. Undergoing a make-under in the early stages of the pandemic, with many consumers swapping high-coverage matte lipsticks for sheer, barely-there tints, the lipcategory shifts further into the skincare space in 2024, with a rise in ingredient-packed, multi-purpose formulas that offer both colour and care in one. From hyaluronic acid-infused lipsticks to peptide-powered balms, these makeup-skincare hybrids lace lips with the same benefits we see from our most loved skincare products. Ingredients like hyaluronic acid work to keeplips nourished and hydrated, while going that extra mile to deliver high colour payoff. We can expect to see more brands continue to reinvent the wheel in lipcare with overnight formulas rich in skin-loving ingredients designed to treat lips as you sleep. Look out for lipsleepmasks as the one to watch this year.

Faith Hobson, Buying Director (Haircare & Cosmetics) at LOOKFANTASTIC, says:

“As ever, we’re expecting makeuptrends in 2024 to keepus on our toes! We’re already seeing the Pantone colour of the year ‘Peach Fuzz’ make its way into blush, lips and accessories too. The fresh-faced complexions we’ve seen through the 2023 ‘clean girl’ aesthetic will continue, further enhanced by the ‘skinification’ of cosmetics as the line between makeupand skincare continues to fade. Lipglosses and oils infused with squalane and serum foundations enriched with niacinamide amongst other skin-gredient led products will take topspot in our makeupbags this year. Following the launch of the LOOKFANTASTIC Foundation Finder (using our in-house patented technology), we’re expecting to see continued growth in cosmetics by removing barriers to shade-matching online, and through some SUPER exciting newness from our brand partners.”
