How Has K-Beauty Evolved?

From breakout brands to generationally defining favourites, the K-Beauty movement still shows no signs of slowing down, with TikTok #kbeauty searches crossing into mainstream dominance with a +719% uplift since 2023.

How is K-Beauty Evolving?

As engagement increases around hero names and key actives, rather than broad category searches, what was once trend-led curiosity, is now set in purchase confidence.

LOOKFANTASTIC's Senior Buying Manager, Lauren Starkey, tells us,

“K-Beauty has seen phenomenal growth year-to-date, at up +158% YoY. Skincare remains the primary driver at LOOKFANTASTIC, accounting for 80% of the category, with early signs of growth emerging in both haircare and bodycare.”

It’s easy to see why.

Rooted in prevention over correction, K-Beauty champions skin-barrier support and long-term skin health through thoughtfully layered routines, with mainstays like Beauty of Joseon and Medicube now among TikTok's top 6 hero K-Beauty brands for 2026. According to the platform, the hyper-growth of Korean skincare, its synonymous ‘Glass Skin’, and K-Beauty have officially graduated from trends to core market staples, boasting massive triple-to-quadruple percentage gains in viewership across the platform.

The same can be said for Reddit. In the first six months of this year, UK views to r/AsianBeauty reached 5.8 million and r/KoreanBeauty reached 730,000 UK views.

The core of this success are the lightweight textures, prolonged performance and targeted application the movement is known for, which still resonates with consumers.

For results that feel both visible and sustainable, Lauren adds,

“consumer demand continues to prioritise key skin concerns, including dryness, sun damage, skin ageing, and compromised skin barriers, so are increasingly shaping K-Beauty formulations and product claims."

K-Beauty is all about consistency, and search behaviour suggests that consumers are seeking key ingredients that offer visible results alongside lasting benefits.

With this “innovation remaining a key growth driver,” Lauren adds, “Niacinamide, PDRN, Peptides and Collagen are all delivering triple-digit growth,” alongside the introduction of an up and coming go-to: probiotics.

Now ranking among the top 15 skincare ingredients on LF, searches for probiotics have soared at +90% YoY. Designed to optimise the skin microbiome, they naturally maintain the microorganisms that live on our skin. Helping to strengthen our skin barrier, these fermented actives reduce redness and spotlight long-lasting skin resilience, not just short-term correction.

Texture innovation is also steering engagement. From jelly creams and milky toners, we expect sensorial skincare to power the “glass skin” aesthetic in the coming months. Hydrating lip oils and masks are among our standout performers, with a conversion rate of 16.2%.

What is "Glass Skin"? Why you need to know about this New K-Beauty Trend

Discover how you can achieve "glass skin"; the new K-Beauty trend that's sweeping the world with its dewy and radiance-enhancing properties.

“Looking ahead, these trends are expected to continue into 2027,” Lauren says, “with further ‘skinification’ of adjacent beauty categories driving innovation and growth beyond skincare.”

Slow and steady - with a high-shine finish - wins this race.

What excites me most about the evolution of K-beauty is how it’s shifted from being trend led to innovation led. We’re seeing more advanced formulations, thoughtful ingredient combinations, and simplified routines that focus on achieving healthy, balanced skin rather than chasing perfection.

- Anjali,

K-beauty is so popular because consumers are far more ingredient-conscious than they were a few years ago. Rather than looking for products that promise instant results, people are looking for formulas that support long-term skin health with gentle, effective ingredients. My audience is interested in understanding why a product works, not just seeing a recommendation. It proves that skincare doesn't need to be complicated or a 10-step routine to be effective – it's about choosing the right products for your skin.

Final Thoughts

  • K-Beauty is no longer just a trend – growing purchase confidence, ingredient-led searches and continued innovation have cemented it as a core part of the beauty landscape.
  • Prevention remains at its heart, with barrier support, hydration and long-term skin health taking priority over quick fixes.
  • Ingredients including niacinamide, peptides, PDRN, collagen and probiotics reflect a growing appetite for targeted formulas that support visible results and skin longevity.
  • Innovation is evolving beyond ingredients, with sensorial textures such as milky toners and jelly creams giving familiar routines a fresh, elevated feel.
  • The famous multi-step routine is evolving, too. Today’s K-Beauty consumer is embracing considered, effective routines built around what their skin actually needs.
  • And K-Beauty’s influence is only getting bigger, with the skinification of haircare and bodycare set to bring its innovative, skin-first philosophy to every step of the beauty routine.
