K-Beauty Frequently Asked Questions
What is K-Beauty, and How Does it Differ from Western Skincare?
Korean skincare is different from Western skincare mostly in its focus on high-quality ingredients, skin protection and prevention. At its core, Korean skincare focuses on preventing problems from starting, rather than reacting once skin concerns occur.
So, instead of just covering and concealing imperfections, K-Beauty attempts to address the cause of the issue with a holistic approach, innovative formulas and skin barrier-loving blends.
It does this through its use of traditional ingredients that are not commonly found in Western skincare, like snail mucin or rice.

What is the K-Beauty 10 Step Skincare Routine?
While Western skincare does not have a general skincare routine to follow, Korean skincare follows a more structured regime, known as the 10 Step Routine. Though it may sound overwhelming, it's wholly adaptable and can help to take the guesswork out of how to use your products and optimising your results.
The routine details the best way to layer products, how to mix and match formulas and ingredients, and the optimal way to organise your morning and evening regimen.
The desired outcome of the 10-step routine and layering skincare is “glass skin”, I.E skin that is smooth, supple, and shiny. Youthful, healthy, hydrated skin is the optimum result of using a Korean skincare routine, and who wouldn't want that?
Is Korean Skincare Better than Western Skincare?
While one is not necessarily better than the other, the main different between Korean and Western skincare is the focus.
While Korean skincare prioritises the prevention of skincare concerns arising, Western skincare tends to address the concerns as they happen. For example, K-beauty is packed with natural ingredients like green tea, which contains antioxidants that can prevent acne breakouts, whereas one of the most popular Western skincare products are zit stickers, which are used after the breakout happens.
The approach Korean products take also differs to Western skincare. While K-beauty focuses on gentle layering of hydrating products filled with natural, traditional ingredients, Western skincare is more targeted and generally contains actives like retinoids.
How do I Start a K-Beauty Routine?
Starting a K-Beauty routine is all about building layers of hydration and choosing products that suit your skin's needs. Rather than overcomplicating your routine, begin with a few essentials such as a gentle cleanser, hydrating toner, serum and moisturiser, then introduce targeted treatments gradually.
K-Beauty routines are designed to feel adaptable and easy to personalise. Whether your focus is glow, hydration or balancing the look of skin, lightweight textures and skin-supporting ingredients make it simple to create a routine that fits seamlessly into both morning and evening skincare rituals.
We've also created a routine builder to give you an easy, step-by-step way of curating your own K-Beauty skincare routine.
How Long Does K-Beauty Take to Work?
As much as Korean skincare is renowned for its efficacy, it cannot show results immediately – no routine can!
The skin naturally goes through a 28-day cycle where old cells are replaced with new ones. While it can vary depending on the products you use and your skin type, with consistent application, results could start to become visible after this month has elapsed.
If your concerns are slightly more acute, like wrinkles or acne scars, it may take a few months for you to notice any changes in your skin.
As with all skincare, consistency is key.
Does K-Beauty Skincare Work for Sensitive Skin?
Many Korean skincare products are formulated for sensitive skin. Because of the focus on high-quality ingredients and gentle, yet powerful, treatments, much of the classic Korean ingredients can be used on any and every skin type.
If you're trialling new products, you may want to patch test them beforehand, or prioritise blends that contain soothing and calming ingredients over actives, retinoids and acids.
