Real Skin Stories with Kitty Dashper and Zelens

As someone with acne prone skin, content creator Kitty Dashper (@kittydashper) has struggled to find a skincare routine that works for her, something which many of us can relate to. That’s why we have drafted in the doctor and skin expert from Zelens, Dr Marko Lens, to react to Kitty’s skincare routine for removing makeup for the advice we all need to hear.

After reacting to Kitty’s routine, Dr Marko Lens will suggest a new and updated routine to keep the acne at bay. Kitty will then vlog an update of how her skin is looking and welcome us all along her journey!

In this episode, Kitty walks us through her current skincare routine as she takes her makeup off for the day. Discover what Dr Marko Lens thinks of her routine below!

Dr Marko Lens' Response

Cleanser

‘The cleanser you are using is absolutely fine. It contains Salicylic Acid and it will serve the purpose. The whole point is to use some acids with anti-inflammatory effects while effectively cleansing the skin.’

‘Acids help to reduce inflammation, which is an important triggering factor in acne.’

Exfoliater

‘I was looking at the exfoliator you were using and I don’t think that this is necessary for you because this is actually not a proper exfoliator, this is a cleanser. This cleanser is based on mineral oils and these are never good for skin that is suffering from acne. I would completely avoid this step and instead use exfoliating pads, containing different alpha-hydroxy acids. After cleansing you use the pad and wipe your skin for a proper exfoliation.’

‘Because you have young skin, I would suggest a very delicate type of exfoliation. It’s good that you mentioned not using exfoliants with beads in because this would cause abrasion to the skin.’

Hyaluronic Acid

‘It’s good you are using this in your routine as it is a great ingredient which adds moisture and it’s a good step after the exfoliation of the skin’

Moisturiser

‘For the dryness you are experiencing during exfoliation, I would suggest changing the moisturiser and using an emollient based moisturiser. This avoids mineral oil-based moisturisers, which are comedogenic and can cause breakouts’
