Stunning unisex scent
Sophisticated woody, gourmand from the venerable French house showcasing a smoky tobacco in all its glory. Ecrin de Fumee is, a deep, rich chocolate, smoky tobacco with boozy and woody facets, it’s a spectacular composition. Don’t have anything else like this in my collection! Outstanding performance as well!

Failed to live up to expectations
I’m taking responsibility for my disappointment with this fragrance. I have a couple of Serge Lutens’ Section d’Or collection fragrances, Veilleur de Nuit and Sidi Bel-Abbés. Now these are both seriously expensive, but I believe the quality is immediately apparent. With Ecrin de Fumee I thought ‘chocolate, tobacco, rum, this will be amazing!’. Unfortunately it couldn’t begin to live up to my expectations. Overall I find it rather pedestrian, it doesn’t excite the senses and the olfactory effect is muddled. For me, Veilleur de Nuit is a masterpiece, and regardless of the once insane price I’d still buy another bottle if it wasn’t discontinued. Although I don’t rave about Side Bel-Abbés as much, the composition is exemplary, which leaves Ecrin de Fumee looking like something of an imposter. Of course it’s much less expensive, but it shows. I will have to hunt down more of the discontinued Section d’Or collection, for me they’re by far the best Lutens creations.

A modern day masterpiece
This fragrance was so good that I had to order a bigger bottle. If you are looking for a sexy, smoky/boozy fragrance, Écrin de Fumée is the one for you. It will probably be best suited for autumn/winter, formal evenings or even night outs. Another masterpiece from Serge Lutens.
