YOUR GUIDE TO ESSENTIAL OILS
It’s the aromatherapy superstar that everyone is talking about, essential oils are the key to a relaxed body and mind, and the perfect addition to your pamper sessions. We caught up with Nicole Jales, UK & International Training Manager at ESPA, to find out more about these powerful little liquids.
What are essential oils?
Essential oils are oils extracted from different parts of plants, which are then used for their therapeutic benefits for mind and body.
How do essential oils work?
Essential oils can be applied directly to the skin or inhaled. By inhaling them, the aroma of the oils is sent to the limbic system in the brain, where it is processed and releases neurochemicals, which relax, uplift, stimulate, etc, depending on the oil used.
What are the different ways you can incorporate essentials oils into your routine?
You can add an essential oil into a carrier massage oil or use pre-blended oils, such as our ESPA Signature blend Bath & Body oils. These can be applied over the body or added into your bath for a relaxing soak.
What are the skincare benefits of essential oils?
Each essential oil has different skincare benefits depending on your concern. For example, Frankincense, which is contained in our Tri-Active™ Regenerating Treatment Oil, encourages the growth of new skin cells to help improve the overall complexion.
Do essential oils help with stress and anxiety?
Certain essential oils can help to balance and ease anxious and stressful thoughts. The deeply comforting power of Palmarosa and Rose Geranium, which are at the heart of our Restorative blend, helps to comfort and soothe, restoring harmony within the mind and body.
Are there any risks involved with using essential oils?
The safest way of using essential oils is to inhale them. Essential oils can affect everyone differently and they could cause skin aggravation if applied directly onto the skin. Always consult a GP prior if you have any concerns. A safe option is to use a pre-blended oil such as one of our ESPA Signature blend Pulse Point oils.
