How to master the barely-there makeup look

With Autumn approaching and masks still being an essential accessory to our outfits, many of us have resorted to more of a stripped back approach with our makeup.Gone are the days of full coverage foundation it’s now all about that fresh rosy glow. Not only will a simpler makeup routine save you time in the mornings but it will also do wonders to your skin. To help we’ve put together some essential steps so you too can master the barely-there makeup look, perfect for every occasion!

Ensure your skin is moisturised

The key to achieving the barely-there makeup look is tostart with your base. By using a moisturiser this creates a barrier and ensures your skin is protected throughout the day. It also helps to soothe dry and sensitive skinallowing your makeup to apply flawlessly. Bobbi Brown’s Vitamin Enriched Face Base is packed with essential vitamins and minerals to deeply nourish the skin. With a blend of Grapefruit and Geranium, the moisturiser leaves your skin visibly smooth and hydrated, ready for a perfect makeup application.

Prep and Prime

You may think to skip priming with a ‘barely-there’ look, however priming ensures the thin layers of product stayvisible all day. Some primers also consist of a light coverage or a glow to help prep your base even further. TheSmashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer is designed to maximise seamless makeup application, enveloping your face in a smooth, even veil. Disguising imperfections, it also softens the complexion leaving it balanced and velvety to the touch.

Choose a light coverage

Opt for a light to medium coverage foundation to allow your skin to shine through. By choosing a lighter coverage it not only allows your skin to breathe but helps to hide any dark circles or blemishes without covering up too much. Shiseido's Synchro Skin Self Refreshing Foundation seamlessly glides onto the skin to offer a lightweight and buildable veil of coverage that will keep skin feeling fresh and looking natural, perfect for that barely there look.

Incorporate colour

We don’t mean ravish in red or go bold with the blues, but switching up to a brown mascara creates an illusion of natural thicker lashes. Rich in colour and effortless looking, brown shades simply enhance the lashes you have. MAC’s Haute & Naughty Lash helps to define and separate whilst adding volume and fullness. The full brush drapes lashes in a velvety brown giving a soft edge to your natural look.

Set with a glow

To create the illusion of dewy skin with little product, an illuminating setting spray is your answer. Not only will it ensure your makeup lasts all day but it will also give you that extra glow. MAC's Prep + Prime Fix+ Spray in Goldliteis easy to apply and will keep your makeup looking fresh for as long as it needs to. The shine-free, dewy finish gives your makeup a day-long glow whilst adding a boost of hydration.
