A Christmas makeup routine to last all day

Merry Christmas from lookfantastic! To celebrate this special day, we are sharing our top tips with you on how to keep your Christmas makeup in place all day without it ever look flat, matte or boring.

1. Use a redness reducing primer

With all the cooking, unwrapping and general festivities, Christmas Day can leave us looking a little flushed.

Combat this by using a redness reducing primer, such as the Smashbox Photo Finish Redness Reduce Primer. Ideal for all skin types, it counteracts any redness in the skin to leave you with a flawless canvas for makeup application. Don’t worry; it doesn’t make you look like the Grinch.

2. Apply a luminous foundation

For Christmas Day, you need a foundation that will last all day and still look fresh, dewy and glowing. One of our favourite products to help achieve that is Estée Lauder’s Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Foundation. Not only does it have an incredible shade selection, but it doesn’t budge all day despite its glow-inducing formulation.

Once you have applied your foundation, finish with the Smashbox Serene Greens Primer Water, which helps to set your makeup and hydrate your skin so it doesn’t dry out.

3. Correct & conceal

One of our favourite concealing duos of all time comes from Bobbi Brown.

The brand’s Creamy Corrector is the ultimate weapon against dark circles; perfect for when you’ve had a sleepless, excited night waiting for Christmas Day. It helps your concealer to blend beautifully into the skin and make your eyes look bright and wide awake.

After applying corrector, go in with the Bobbi Brown Instant Full Cover Concealer to perfect the area. Non-drying, it won’t cake or go patchy throughout the day, and instead helps to hydrate and keep your delicate eye area moisturised.

4. Powder (if needed)

If you need to powder your skin to prevent oiliness, try the Clinique Blended Face Powder. It not only comes with an accompanying brush for perfect application, it helps to control oil production and leave the skin mattified without looking flat.

If you prefer more of a natural, radiant glow to your skin (and have any areas of dehydration), you will love Smashbox’s Halo Hydrating Perfecting Powder. Although it can be worn as a luminous finishing powder, it also looks great over foundation to keep the skin hydrated and illuminated.

5. Use an illuminating bronzer & higlighter

Add a touch of gleaming radaiance to your skin to celebrate the festive season with one of our favourite bronzer & highligher combinations.

First, start by applying Bobbi Brown’s Illuminating Bronzing Powder to your cheeks. We love to sweep over the skin but if you prefer more of a sculpted look, you can even use it to contour.

Then, apply the Smashbox  L.A. Lights Blendable Lip & Cheek Colour for a pop of shimmer on the tops of your cheekbones.

Once applied, blend the two together into your skin for a naturally radiant glow.

6. Go for gold on your eyes…

A pop of gold on your lids is not only super festive, it suits all skin tones.

We love MAC’s Dazzleshadow in shades Oh So Gilty and Dazzle Style for creating a golden smokey eye. If you want something more natural and sheer, apply one of the shades for a gorgeous wash of shimmering colour.

7….and bold with your lashes

For beautifully long, luscious lashes, apply Bobbi Brown’s Smokey Eye Mascara.

The formulation is super creamy and coats each lash with a jet black pigment that lengthens, volumises and adds definition.

Luckily, it also doesn’t run, so when you feel a little emotional over Christmas films and adverts, it won’t end up all over your face.

8. Finally, add a touch of festive red

Who can resist a gorgeous wash of red on the lips for Christmas Day? We can’t, and one of our favourite shades is MAC’s Lipstick in Ruby Woo.

A classic colour in a trusted formula, it’s perfect for plumping up your pout. Plus, it stays in place no matter how much mistletoe you find yourself under…
