Despite it officially being World Health Day today, health and well-being is something we should all prioritise every day of the year, particularly given the current global situation. Vitamins are an essential when it comes to keeping our organs healthy and running. This includes the biggest organ in the body, the skin. A lack of the right vitamins can lead to an imbalance, causing problems to arise in the skin, hair or nails. We've summed up the best vitamins for your hair and skin and picked out some of our favourite products that will keep you topped up with the good stuff.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is one of the most important vitamins when it comes to the skin being found in both the outer and inner layers of the epidermis (skin layers). It is the superhero of all skin vitamins, containing antioxidants that help fight cancer, collagen to keep the skin looking plump and youthful and helping protect against damage as well as reducing any existing damage and reducing wrinkles.

Vitamin C also contributes to the maintenance of healthy hair. The antioxidant ingredients also support against free radical damage which can stop hair growth and cause ageing. It also helps the body absorb Iron, another important vitamin for hair growth.

Vitamin D

Known as the sun vitamin, it's no surprise that those of us that live in colder countries often don't get as much Vitamin D as we should which can lead to hair loss and dull looking skin. Vitamin D has been linked to follicle growth in the hair as well as a brighter, more even looking complexion.

Vitamin E

Even though we usually don't get enough Vitamin D from the levels of sunlight in the UK, the sun can be deceiving and still cause damage on even the dullest looking days. Vitamin E primarily helps prevent against this by absorbing harmful UV rays, helping to prevent premature ageing and dark spots. Our skin's natural source of Vitamin A usually comes from the sebum our pores produce, meaning those with dry skin may need to top up on this one.

Vitamin E's protective properties also apply to the hair and can help prevent hair loss and keep it shiny and full.

Vitamin A

Vitamin A, often found in Retinol products, is the powerhouse of anti-ageing Vitamins. It's cell-renewal properties mean it is one of the best ways to reduce wrinkles, damaged skin and even acne as well as helping regulate sebum production.

Vitamin B3

Also known as niacinamide, Vitamin B3 helps to reduce signs of ageing and keep the skin looking young and bright. It contributes to the production of red blood cells to carry oxygen to the skin and hair.

Zinc

Helping to repair damage and aid growth, Zinc keeps hair looking full. It also regulates oil production on the skin, helping with concerns such as acne and oily skin.
