Summer beauty is a little lighter than any other time of the year as the warmer weather requires us to rethink our formulas. Heavier bases and dark shades make way for lighter formulas and brighter pops of colour, and we couldn't be happier.
Heavy foundation for tinted moisturiser
Swap your heavy and full coverage foundation for a lighter formula, such as a tinted moisturiser or BB cream. Your skin sweats a lot more in the warmer weather, so you need a base which lets it breathe, so chances of breakouts are reduced.
One of our favourite products is the Chantecaille Just Skin Tinted Moisturiser, which has the added benefit of an SPF 15. Super lightweight yet builable, it contains a botanical blend of extracts which feed the skin with nutrition as it evens out its tone.
Alternatively, if you suffer from acne or pigmentation and do feel better wearing a fuller coverage foundation, try one which has a radiant and lightweight finish, such as the Estée Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh Makeup. It has the same wear longevity as the original, but leaves a glowing and lightweight luminosity behind.
Lipstick for lipgloss
Swap out your dark and matte lipstick shades for sheerer lipglosses, which add a pop of colour, but feed the lips with hydration.
The NYX Professional Makeup Intense Butter Gloss has a super moisturising texture, which gives a bright pop of colour without compromising on hydration. Plus, it makes the lips appear super plumped-up and glossy; perfect for the summer months.
Alternatively, if you're a die hard lipstick fan, choose one that has a super hydrating formula. We love the By Terry Hyaluronic Sheer Nude Hydra-Balm Lipstick, which contains moisture-plumping ingredients to give the look of a hydrated and volumised finish.
Powder blush for cheek gel
Powder makeup can run in the summer heat, which is why it's always best to switch to a cream or gel formula. Not only do they blend easily and seamlessly, they don't go cakey when the temperature heats up.
Pixi's Sheet Cheek Gel is one of the best summer beauty products we have tried. With a lightweight formula that gives a gorgeous yet lightweight pop of colour; they're the perfect product to update your makeup routine.
Alternatively, if you prefer a cream formula, try the Lipstick Queen Frog Prince Blusher. Although this looks brighe green in the pan, it melts into a gorgeous shade of pink that suits your natural skin tone thanks to its unique pH technology. In addition, it's infused with skin conditioning agents that keep the cheeks well moisturised in the summer heat.
