Redken Cerafill Defy Range

Redken Cerafill Defy Range

The Redken Cerafill Defy Shampoo and Conditioner are a duo that are specially formulated to give thin hair a more fuller look.  They recommend using them if your hair is prone to breakage (perhaps due to pregnancy or hormonal changes) and it is also suitable for colour-treated hair, which was a big plus for me.

What is my hair type?

What Does Redken Cerafill Defy Aim To Do?

The shampoo contains Zinc PCA, which gently cleanses the hair without stripping it, and also works on eliminating sebum, which clogs the hair follicles.

In addition to this, the conditioner contains Ceramide, which allows the hair to build strength but crucially does not weigh it down; a factor which I was very interested to review as I’m always looking to improve the volume of my hair.

Review Of The Redken Cerafill Defy Collection

I was hesitant to use the the shampoo and conditioner at first, as I found the packaging to be quite sterile and scientific looking in comparison to the Kerastase Denisifque range that I reviewed last week. This certainly has its advantages though if you’re looking for a gender-neutral range which can be shared throughout a household.

After using the products I was pleasantly surprised at how luxurious they felt, both in terms of consistency and in terms of scent. My hair was left feeling clean and fortified, but not necessarily any fuller or voluminous just yet.

I am going to continue trying the range over a longer period in order to gauge benefits such as breakage prevention and reduction in overall hair shedding. Watch this space for an update! Overall though I was pleased with the range, and my hair certainly benefited from them in the short term. Here are my more in depth thoughts on the products I tried:

    The Cerafill Defy Shampoo

As my hair is very long, I used a generous amount of this shampoo (enough to cover my palm), and found that it worked into a bubbly lather almost instantly. The fragrance was a lovely surprise too, as the Apple and Ginger scent was extremely refreshing and left me feeling invigorated.

The shampoo boasts a dual effect; firstly, to strengthen the hair follicles themselves for denser feeling hair, and secondly to treat the scalp. Though I cannot say I saw any difference to the texture or feel of my hair, I did feel as though my scalp was thoroughly cleansed and refreshed.

    The Cerafill Defy Conditioner

I then applied a generous amount of conditioner (again enough to cover the palm of my hand) into the mid-lengths and ends of my hair. I was impressed by how luxurious and creamy the formula felt, and when I washed it off after 5-10 minutes my hair was left feeling soft.

It is probably impossible to find a conditioner that truly works to improve the thickness of hair without just coating the fibres, as their main function is to smooth the follicle, however I did enjoy the way my hair felt after it. I also really enjoyed the scent which remained on my hair for several days after washing. I’d like to see what impact the Ceramide would have after 6 weeks or so.
