Come September there is an underlying buzz around London. With the infamous London Fashion Week taking place from the 15th until the 17th September, it brings with it a host of excited and fantastic fashion from around the world all gathered in one place.
This weekend, Lookfantastic and its sister company luxury fashion site, Coggles, had the fantastic opportunity to run around London, seeing shows and learning the next beauty and hair trends for you to try.
For our first day in London, we only got the chance to see two shows. Starting with Bernard Shandoran, set in Freemason’s Hall on New Queen Street. His collection took on an inspiring theme of both modern and classic shapes and designs alongside a colour palette reminiscent of Bollywood.
With iridescent teals, fuchsias and burnt oranges strutting up and down the catwalk Shandoran teamed this with lashings of gold and shimmer to create a luxurious collection that certainly impressed the crowd.
The hair was kept loose, naturally teased and fresh looking. With loose plaits and half pulled through bobbles, it was a style that many of you will be able to recreate for that laidback but super chic spring/summer 14 look. Mainly with simple, middle partings sometimes adorned with gold, silver or teal head pieces.
The foundation for the models skin was left clean and dewy. Continuing with 2013’s fresh outlook on skin as opposed to the recent matte trend beforehand. Cheeks were simply highlighted with a light gold shimmer, but behind this there was clear indication of heavy contouring to define each of the models facial structures beautifully.
Lips were left with a classic and bold red stain, drawing attention away from the eyes that were only flickered with simple mascara. The main thing that we picked up on was the use of gold throughout the makeup. Gold was used in alteration with head pieces, decorating the models foreheads with circled gold specks that highlighted as the model walked through the trail of lights along the catwalk.
The second show we attended was that of Ping He. A collection much sought after with the likes of Poppy Delvingne gracing the front row to see the new spring/summer 2014 designs.
Keeping with a monochrome theme, Peng’s pieces were ready to wear from the catwalk, featuring peplum and lazer cut detailing that enhanced the natural curvatures of the female body.
The hair throughout this collection came in the form of a largely oversized and backcombed beehive bun. Bringing back a style from the sixties but with a slight twist. Featuring accurately applied black and white blocks along the hair, suggesting that the trend of hair chalking is very much still on the radar in the coming new year.
Invite some texture into your updo with a surf or beach spray, using the right styling brush to really build up some height to copy this look. The most dramatic of the collection was the face make up.
Statement worthy white powder applied onto and around the eyes, almost like a mask. Partnered with a coating of white mascara to really bring out the depth in the models faces.
Bring out the best in your eyes by applying some light shimmer eyeshadows onto your lids, inner corners and underneath your lower lashes to bring you a really wearable but trend worthy look.
The true beauty however, lied within the lips. Smothered in black glitter with a single line of white glitter running from the middle of the bow to the bottom lip. Not the most wearable of looks but we think that replicated with a red lip would look amazing.
Apply a slick flick of red lipstick, using a make up brush, apply a smooth layer of eyeshadow glitter and set with a layer of gloss. Perfect for that girly night out you’ve got planned before Christmas.
First day of fashion week over and we’ve got so much to tell you still. With a day’s worth of shows to come tomorrow, we hope you’re as excited as we are to try out the latest trends for spring/summer 2014.
