Just bitten: Autumn’s hottest lip trend

The just bitten lip trend is a makeup look that anyone can pull off, irrespective of age and skin tone. Even if you are a little hesitant to wear a bold, opaque colour on your lips, creating a touch of colour with a stain or a sheer lip product can allow to experiment with the rich plum and red lip shades which dominate the Autumn months.

To help you create the just bitten look, we have selected our favourite sheer, fuss-free lip products which will leave a veil of colour on your lips which wears beautifully throughout the day.

Lip Prep

Prepping your lips is the first step in creating a soft, just-bitten lip look. Moisturised, soft lips take well to stains and allow the product to fade beautifully throughout the day whereas dry, chapped lips simply catch the colour, causing a patchy, uneven finish.

Begin by smoothing your lips with EOS Organic Pomegranate Raspberry Smooth Sphere Lip Balm. Enriched with Shea Butter and Jojoba Oil, the nourishing lip balm glides effortlessly over lips, hydrating the skin for a smooth, plump pout.

If you want to create the illusion of a fuller lip line before applying any colour to your lips, follow your balm with Project Lip Matte Plumping Primer. The volume-boosting formula stimulates the production of collagen in your skin to define and increase the size of your lips.

Tinted Balm

One way to create a just-bitten lip look is by using a tinted balm. Adding just a touch of colour to your lips, tinted balms are the perfect way to nourish your lips whilst adding an autumnal shade to your makeup look.

Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm in the shade ‘Red Dahlia’ is a beautiful deep red shade that leaves a sheer wash of colour on the lips. Infused with Shea Butter and Botanical Waves, the tinted balm leaves a natural-looking touch of colour on the lips and can be easily applied on-the-go without a mirror.

Sheer Lipstick

If you want a little more colour pay-off but still want a natural, just-bitten look, opt for a lipstick with a sheer formula. Bobbi Brown Crushed Lip Colors feel almost like a balm yet coat your lips in beautiful, buildable colour.

Weightless and non-drying, the Crushed Lip Colors create a subtle stain with just one swipe but can be layered for a richer finish. Infused with soft matte pigments, the lipsticks leave a satin finish on the lips that lasts all day. From warm-toned nudes such as the shade ‘Clementine’ to rich burgundy tones like ‘Grenadine’, you will find your perfect autumn shade in the Crushed Lip collection.

Lip Stain

To create a just-bitten look that lasts all day long, chose a lip stain with rich colour pay off which promises to stay put on the lips. MAC Versiocolour Stains are a hybrid of a stain and a lip gloss, leaving intense colour on the lips with a high-shine lacquer finish which lasts for hours.

The jelly-textured Versiocolour Stains form a weightless, flexible veil over the lips, leaving behind a beautiful colour that does not dry out the lips. Layer for a rich opaque colour or apply once and dab with your finger for a blotted, just-bitten finish.

‘Preserving Passion’ leaves a rich, raspberry stain on the lips and we love ‘Perpetual Holiday’ for a deeper, more vampy finish.

Liquid Lipstick

Although they are mostly used to create bold, full lip looks, liquid lipsticks can also be used to create a soft flush of colour on the lips when applied in a particular way.

Instead of applying the liquid lipstick straight from the applicator, take some of the product on to your finger and dab on to your lips. Burberry Liquid Lip Velvets are the perfect product to use to create such a look thanks to their whipped, velvety texture. The non-drying formula looks beautiful when applied lightly on to the lips and stays in place all day long.

To create the perfect autumnal just-bitten look, apply Burberry Liquid Lip Velvet in the shade ‘Oxblood’ with your fingers to diffuse the pigment and create a wash of long-lasting colour.
