It’s a new year and a new you! January is the time for re-invention, with everyone fleeing to the gym, or jumping on the dieting bandwagon. We want to make a smaller change this year, and that change is finding a fabulous new lipstick to make a statement.
Finding that perfect shade for your skin tone can sometimes be a tricky journey. I know I have picked up a lovely nude lipstick before, and it has totally washed me out when you get it on your lips.
Here are our top tips to finding a new lipstick shade to suit the occasion and your skin tone.
Fair skin – the english rose
For the fairer ladies in the mix we are loving these berry and orange tones of bright lippy for you to experiment with this season.
Our top picks for the fairer among us are the Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Streak which a lovely coral shade, perfect for daytime and buildable for the evening. Next up is the nude of all nudes the Too Faced La Creme Color Drenched Lip Cream in Nude Beach and finally the gorgeous Pixi Brilliance Balm in Pretty Pink, which has a gorgeous light pale pink colour, ideal for matching with a dramatic eye.
YELLOW TONES – SUNKISSED SKIN
Those of us with sunkissed and bronzed skin can get away with the nude shades without the worry of them washing us out. Our first pick is the RMK Irresistible Lips in B 30. Our next selection is for those wanting to make a statement day or night; Daniel Sandler in Red Carpet will make sure you are noticed and for those of us with blue or green eyes, it will make them pop. Finally the Bare Minerals in Live Large is perfect for those evenings when you want to shake it up and go bold with your lip colour.
Olive and Mediterainean skin Tones
All the olive skinned beauties out there have the pick of the bunch, as most lip colours will suit your lips.
We suggest going bold with a bright pink lipstick like the New CID I-Pout in Fuchsia, or blaze the trail in a vixen red from Lord and Berry. For the daring or just too cool for school this sheer lipstick from Lipstick Queen is perfect (don’t let the blue put you off)!
African/ Black Skin
For those of you with black skin, you my beauties have the lipstick world at your beck and call. There are so many of the wonderful colours that work amazingly on black skin and really pop on darker skin tones.
Be daring and eye catching with this amazing Drops of Brandy metallic lipstick from Deborah Lippman. If that isnt your cup of tea, try the gorgeously glossy Marvelous Moxie Lip gloss from Bareminerals in Stunner. This will give a slick sheen to the lips and a pop of colour, perfect for the spring. We also love the Lipstick Queen Endless Summer Selection, these three wonderful bright colours will help you bring your own sunshine.
Last but not least, if you are not feeling adventurous but want to go for a chic and on-trend look, try the nude collection from Lord and Berry.
The most important thing is that you experiement and have fun with your lip colour!
