  3. Use Coloured Hair Shampoo
  4. Use Hair Masks
  5. Exfoliate your Scalp
  6. Take Hair Nutrients
  7. Add in Hair Treatments
  8. Rinse with Cool Water
  9. Use the right Hair Tools
  10. Massage your Head

Switch to SLS-free Hair Products

SLS, or Sodium-Lauryl Sulfate may be an excellent foaming agent, but its irritating properties can actually cause long-term damage to hair, and leave locks dull and lacking in radiance.

Instead, opt for SLS-free products if you are concerned about colour damage, and use brands such as Aveda, Christophe Robin, Pureology and Duck and Dry.

We love the Aveda Shampure Shampoo, which is made with a blend of natural botanical extracts to protected the colour and integrity of your hair without compromising on cleansing abilities. Follow with their Shampure Conditioner for a truly natural and nourishing experience.

Use a Heat Protectant Spray

Exposing hair to constant heat from dryers and styling tools can leave it feeling and looking a little frazzled and dull.

Using a heat protectant spray not only helps to shield your hair from the damaging effects of hot air and steam, but also detangles and smooths out frizzy hair fibres.

One of our favourite heat protection sprays is the Moroccanoil Heat Styling Protection. Made with a unique Vitamin Complex, including A and E, the mist helps to regulate hydration levels in the hair, while Argan Oil and Almond Oil Glycerides restore elasticity and keep frizzy ends at bay.

Use Coloured Hair Shampoo

Coloured locks can start going dull when you don't use the right cleansing treatments to look after them.

As hair has been dyed and highlighted, it requires more nourishing and targeted products to help keep its colour vibrant and intact.

System Professional's Color Save Shampoo has been specially formulated to protect the delicate keratin structure of the hair, which can often break down and become damaged when dye is applied to it. Infused with Quaternium and Beeswax, the shampoo protects against colour fading and dullness, and leaves locks gorgeously soft too.

Use Hair Masks

Hair masks should be used as a twice-weekly treatment to help replenish and restore lost moisture and nutrients.

Dry and dehydrated hair often results in dullness and colour fading, so making sure to add in a rich and moisturising mask will help combat this and ensure your hair always looks and feels its healthiest.

The Christophe Robin Regenerating Mask contains Inula Flower Extract, which not only restores the pigment of dyed hair, but also the vibrancy of your own natural locks. Plus, as the mask contains Prickly Pear Seed Oil, which can penetrate deep into the hair shaft, it offers immediate relief from very dry fibres.

Exfoliate your Scalp

A build-up of product and hair treatments can also be the root cause of colour dullness.

When shampoo, conditioner and other products are used daily, they can leave a slight residue behind on the hair follicle, which causes the root to become blocked, leading to flat hair and vibrancy loss.

Using a scalp exfoliant such as the Grow Gorgeous Scalp Detox helps to buff away clogging impurity build-up and leave you with super shiny locks. It contains White Willow Bark Extract and Pomegranate Fruit Enzymes to gently cleanse away dirt, oil and excess product, and encourage healthy and vibrant hair growth.

Take Hair Nutrients

Eating a healthy and balanced diet is essential to keeping your whole body working properly, including your hair. Without necessary nutrients such as Biotin and Vitamin E, your hair will appear fatigued, dull and flat.

While we get lots of our vitamins and minerals from the food we eat, adding in a supplement also helps to support healthy hair growth. Viviscal's Maximum Strength Supplements contains both Biotin and Zinc, which help to strengthen the hair and improve its overall appearance and manageability.

Add in Hair Treatments

Hair treatments are one of the easiest ways to get shiny hair, as a lot of them are designed to improve its radiance. Plus, when used daily, they help protect against environmental damage, so your hair stays healthy and vibrant.

One of our favourite treatments is the Moroccanoil Hair Treatment, which like is a precious elixir, enriched with the liquid gold, Argan Oil. Brimming with antioxidants, the treatment helps to shield locks against environmental damage, whilst also detangling knots and giving hair a beautifully, luminous finish.

Once your hair has been dried, spritz with the Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray. It contains a mix of Argan Oil, antioxidants and vitamins for a stunning shine that leaves the hair looking incredibly healthy all day long.

To finish off your look, spray the hair with the Moroccanoil Luminous Hairspray. It has incredibly strong hold to keep your style in place, but never feels heavy or sticky in the hair thanks to its blend of radiance-enhancing ingredients, including the precious Argan Oil.

Rinse with Cool Water

Water that is too hot can cause more harm than good to your delicate locks. Yes we know, a hot shower in the morning and at night is both the perfect energising and wind-down treatment, yet before stepping out, you should always remember to use a burst of cool water on your hair.

Warm water opens the cuticle, which is what makes it great for washing your hair, as it means your shampoo and conditioner can penetrate the shaft to cleanse and soften. On the other hand, cool water seals the cuticle and locks in the moisture, keeping your hair super radiant and healthy.

Use the right Hair Tools

We're not saying don't use hair styling and heat tools, we're just saying choose the right ones (and always use a heat protectant spray.)

When drying your locks, don't forget you need to use the right brush. The Moroccanoil Ceramic Barrel Brush contains both ionic and ceramic properties, which helps to evenly distribute the heat throughout the hair, so that less heat damage is made. The result is healthier and more luminous locks.

T3 is one of the best hairdryer brands we have tried. Made with Tourmaline Technology, which emits negative ions and infra-red heat to hair when heated, actually helps to reduce the amount of damage to your hair in the process. Plus, the ions also work to speed up drying time, which means you are using less heat on your hair. We love the T3 Featherweight 2 Dryer for perfect results.

If you like to straighten or curl your hair, try the ghd Gold Max Styler for super shiny results. The golden plates have a gloss finish, which means they glide through stubborn locks to smooth, they also provide a beautiful shine to the hair.

Massage your Head

A head massage can help to increase blood flow to the scalp, which in turn promotes healthy hair growth and improved luminosity. Plus, it also helps to relieve tension and stress, which are some of the key factors towards problems such as hair loss, weakness and dullness.

Try the Denman Be-Bop Massager, which contains super soft plastic pins to gently massage the scalp without snagging or pulling hair.
