What does a Skin Toner actually do?

If you don’t have a toner in your skincare routine, you’re missing a vital step in your quest for beautifully healthy and glowing skin.

Traditional toners have long been criticised for their harsh effects on delicate complexions. Usually using a blend of astringent ingredients, effects have often been anything but the desired result. That was until we met Pixi, and their cult Glow Tonic.

Firstly though, let’s take a look at why we should be including toners in our beauty regimes, and why that toner should always be the Pixi Glow Tonic.

Why do we need a Skin Toner?

Skin toners are an often misunderstood step. Generally, people believe that once you have cleansed and moisturised, you’re absolutely fine to go and your skin will be okay. This couldn’t be more wrong.

Toners not only help to restore the skin’s natural PH balance, they also help to hydrate the skin and keep it protected against environmental aggressors.

Pixi’s Glow Tonic is enriched with a multitude of good-for-you ingredients, all of which offer different functions in keeping your complexion healthy and glowing.

Red Ginseng: Antioxidant Protection

A key benefit of a skin toner is its ability to protect the skin with a burst of antioxidants. Pixi’s Glow Tonic is enriched with Red Ginseng; the ingredient that gives the tonic its naturally beautiful sunset orange colour.

Prized as an anti-ageing ingredient, Red Ginseng helps to keep the skin looking youthful and glowing thanks to its ability to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles.

As a powerful antioxidant, it also helps to brighten dulling skin; making it a perfect to include in winter beauty routines. It helps to balance out oil production, and keep your skin naturally healthy and radiant without any unwanted shine or sebum.

Aloe Vera: Hydration and Nourishment

As a skin toner is essential in helping to keep the skin hydrated, it’s important it contains moisturising and nourishing ingredients.

One of the hero ingredients in the Pixi Glow Tonic is Aloe Vera. Loved by beauty editors throughout the summer months for treating sunburn, it’s also a fabulous all-year round ingredient.

As the Glow Tonic is enriched with the exfoliating Glycolic Acid, Aloe Vera is there to help soften its effects and keep the skin well nourished, soft and smooth.

By keeping the skin well moisturised, makeup applies easier and skin feels more comfortable and looks naturally healthy and radiant.

Glycolic Acid: Exfoliant

As toners help to shrink the size of pores and reduce the appearance of blemishes, they need to be enriched with an exfoliating ingredient.

Pixi’s Glow Tonic contains the gentle yet extremely effective Glycolic Acid, which contains AHA’s to remove dead skin cells and impurities sitting on its surface for a refined and renewed appearance to the complexion.

It’s also a great ingredient to use if you have blemish-prone or acneic skin as it’s smaller molecular strucutre means it can penetrate deeper into the pores than other acids; unclogging blocked skin cells and removing dirt and toxins.
