As part of our research we have delved into the most popular skincare ingredients in 2022 and have revealed which ingredients dominated the skincare market this year.

Coming in as the second most searched for ingredient is Collagen with another on average per month! Collagen is one of the skin's most important proteins, it is responsible for keeping your skin plump and youthful. The popularity of collagen is not only in skincare but more recently became a huge TikTok trend to put the ingredient in your smoothies! Inspired by Hailey Bieber, content creators were making ‘Strawberry Glaze Skin Smoothies’ that include fruit and veg like strawberries and avocado and of course, collagen!

2023 Trend Predictions
2022 has seen a mountain of beauty trends and with these trends ever evolving we have forecasted new trends that we think will take over 2023!
Refillable packaging
Our first trend prediction for 2023 is refillable packaging. With consumers becoming more aware of their personal effect on the environment, we are seeing an increase in demand for refillable and reusable packaging. From perfumes to fake tan, we are seeing the beauty industry slowly introduce refillable packaging and take responsibility for their carbon footprint when producing products. Consumers are wanting guilt free use of their pleasures in life so, when making purchasing decisions they are predicted to go for the more eco conscious refillable product over one that doesn’t offer this option.
Self-care
Another trend to watch out for in 2023 is the increase in demand for self-care. Beauty isn’t just designed to make us look good, but also feel great, and in 2023, we expect to see an increase in the “treat yourself” attitude. Now more than ever are people investing in self-care, including sexual wellness and are turning to beauty products and brands to provide that uplift we all deserve.
Skinification
The next trend forecast on our predictions is the trend of skinifcation for hair. This trend is all about enhancing your haircare routine to the same level you would your skincare routine. Here at LOOKFANTASTIC we have seen a surge in products including ingredients such as Hyaluronic acid, Squalane, Niacinamide and Glycerin and expect to see more skincare favourites trickling into the haircare market in the new year. There has also been a 55% increase in online searches for “scalp massage technique” and “clean scalp”, showing how people are starting to get ahead of the trend before the new year. Just like skincare, there is no product that works for everyone. So, the first step of hair skinifcation is identifying your hair type, what products and ingredients work best for your hair in order to personalise your routine.
Celebrity beauty brands
This year we have seen more and more celebrities wanting to take part in the beauty industry and we predict this trend will not slow down in 2023. Our next prediction for 2023 is the increase in celebrity skincare brands. We have seen stars like Kim Kardashian and Hailey Bieber take the plunge this year and we expect to see even more in 2023.
Makeup experimentation
Beauty and makeup is a way for people to express themselves, and in 2023, we predict even more experimentation in the beauty world. Alongside this, we expect to see brands encouraging people to be creative when creating their beauty looks. In 2022, we saw just the beginning of this with bold Euphoria styled make up making its statement - so you can expect to see some pretty unique trends in 2023!
Two-tone hair
If you find it tricky to settle on one hair colour, then 2023 might just be the year for you! We predict to see more and more people becoming adventurous with their hair, including incorporating different colours into one look, also known as two-tone hair. We saw the beginning of this trend with the likes of Miley Cyrus and Indiyah Polak in 2022, but expect this trend to explode with online searches for “blue and black braids” up 215% and “lavender and blonde hair” up 150%!
Short is the new long for hair and nails
Whether you’re a maximalist or minimalist, in 2023, we predict shorter is longer when it comes to nails and hair. With online searches for “micro French nails” up 235% and “chopped bob haircut” up a whopping 550%, we’ll trade our almond and coffin shaped extensions for shorter, easier to maintain styles and the same goes for our hair, bobs and lobs will reign the hair scene.
Ceramide serums
With the skincare industry booming in lockdown and only growing ever since, we are predicting there will be a huge demand for Ceramide serums in 2023. Ceramide is the fatty acid that your skin produces to keep the skin from feeling dry and getting infected. Ceramide serums will help strengthen your skin's moisture barrier and improve hydration. So keep an eye out for your favourite brands releasing Ceramide serums in 2023 because we think they will go fast!
Proof behind the claims
Alongside this, as we have all become more aware of different skincare ingredients and how they impact our regimes, the demand for proof behind the claims is expected to increase, ensuring we are investing in the correct products for our skin types. We also expect brands to offer more readily available information to their customers to allow them to further educate themselves when making purchasing decisions.
Lip stains
Lastly on our trend predictions, is lip stains. This lip product has longer staying power than your ordinary lipstick and gives a natural hue to the lips. We have already seen a surge in demand for benefit’s Benetint Lip and Cheek Stain this year and we are predicting that a lot more brands will be jumping on this product trend in 2023!
