When it comes to a good slumber, it takes more than just getting into bed if you want to get a true night of beauty sleep.
Following some careful tips can help to improve your skin, hair and emotional state and leave you feeling calmer and more relaxed.
1. Sleep on a silk pillowcase
Silk pillowcases are becoming more and more popular thanks to their incredible skincare benefits. Their fibres are gentle on the skin and hair, creating less friction between you and the pillowcase itself.
They are also being touted as the dream anti-ageing product, as it is believed that they help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, especially those created by Iluminage. The brand's silk pillowcases are infused with copper oxide, which has been clinically proven to reduce crow's feet and fine lines in as little as 4 weeks.
2. Create a relaxing environment
It's really important to create an environment where you feel comfortable and relaxed, otherwise you may find it hard to drift off easily.
Light a candle half an hour before getting into bed, as this will give it enough time to release its essential oils to help you sleep. We love the ESPA Soothing Candle, which contains rose geranium and sandalwood essential oils to create the perfect relaxing and calm environment before bed.
Additionally, add a room & pillow spray into your bedtime routine as this will contain more powerful ingredients such as lavender to send you into slumber. We love the Mio Liquid Yoga Space Spray, which helps to ease stress, calm and soothe tension headaches.
3. Have a warm bath an hour before bed
Swap your usual habit of watching televsion and checking your phone before bed with a warm bath. It will help to soothe away aches and pains, and leave you feeling mentally and physically relaxed. The warm water is also good at reducing stress and tension.
Try adding in a bath oil which has been specially formulated with sleep-inducing extracts. Our favourites is the REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil, which is made using only 100% natural fragrances and helps to soothe stress and keep your skin beautifully soft.
4. Apply a sleep face mask
Sleep is the most important time for your skin as it's when it rejuvenates itself and works hard to keep it healthy and glowing.
It's so important to moisturise your complexion before bed, as it keeps your skin plumped-up and helps to keep wrinkles at bay.
Try the Strivectin Advanced Retinol Intensive Night Moisturiser if you're worried about fine lines. The lightweight serum melts into the skin and helps you wake up with a rejuvenated complexion.
5. Wear a sleep eye mask
Blocking out the light will help you to drift off quicker and more easily, which is why we love to use eye masks.
Slip Silk's Sleep Mask is made with 100% long fibre mulberry silk (free from all toxins), which helps to block out light and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles around your delicate eye area.
6. Use a hair treatment
Applying an overnight hair treatment will help to keep your locks hydrated and healthy as you sleep.
Sometimes it can be difficult to find the time to add treatments and masks into our haircare routines, which is why overnight ones work wonders.
If you have particularly parched locks, try the Shu Uemura Art of Hair Essence Absolue Overnight Serum, which contains the brand's signature camellia oil to nourish and soften hair from root to tip. It's also non-greasy and lightweight, so suitable for all hair types.
If you have curly or afro hair, you will love the KeraCare Overnight Moisturising Treatment, which is enriched with coconut and sunflower seed oils to reduce breakage and split ends, and keep the hair soft, silky and hydrated.
7. Use a diffuser
A diffuser helps to fill a room with scent; perfect for when you need a good night's sleep.
The this works Deep Sleep Scent Well Diffuser contains a portable diffuser (which you can plug in to any USB port such a laptop or phone charger), and a Deep Sleep Super Blend Oil, which smells of lavender to help promote a sense of well-being.
8. Apply an eye serum
Applying an eye cream at night will help you to wake up with brighter and more energised eyes, which is why it's so important, especially if you know you're going to have a late night.
We love the Eyeko Eye Boost Serum, which contains hyaluronic acid and red algae extract to reduce dark circles, puffiness and wrinkles. Plus, you can follow up with it in the morning, and thanks to its metal tip, it'll immediately reduce puffiness.
9. Apply a hand cream treatment
Bedtime is the perfect time to apply a hand cream as it means it has time to sink it without you turning to other tasks.
Eve Lom's Time Retreat Hand Treatment is enriched with a cocktail of nourishing ingredients like sweet almond and avocado oils, as well as honey and shea butter to keep the skin soft and youthful-looking.
10. Use pregnancy specific products if pregnant
If you're pregnant and struggling to sleep, try using products created especially for pregnant women, as these contain safe ingredients for you and your bump.
We love the Mama Mio Sleep Easy Kit, which contains a Bath & Shower Oil, Tummy Rub Butter and Pillow Spray, all with the brand's Sleep Easy fragrance, which helps to reduce stress and tension, and calm your mood ready for a restful night's sleep. Scented with Lavender and Mint, the Tummy Rub Butter soothes and smooths stretched skin using a gentle blend of Omega Rich Ski Stretch Complex, infused with Avocado, Inchi and Aragan Oils, offering a highly-concentrated dose of Omega 3, 6 and 9.

To get a good night's sleep, you want to make sure that you are feeling your best and in a relaxed state of mind. Cleansing your skin and following a full routine is one of the easiest ways to get ready for bed and prepare you for a a restful night's sleep.
We like to start with the NEOM Organics Perfect Night's Sleep Cleansing Balm, which not only cleanses the skin, but also contains the brand's signature sleep aroma, which helps calm and relieve any tension.
Finish with the SkinCeuticals Antioxidant Lip Repair; which is rich in Vitamin E to alleviate dryness and soothe chapped lips.
