Squalane is a commonly-used but under-the-radar skincare ingredient, yet it’s a secret superstar. Alongside Vitamin C, activated charcoal and witch hazel, it’s about to become one of this year’s hottest skincare ingredients.
What is squalane?
The body naturally produces something called squalEne but over time as we age, production decreases, causing dehydration and damage to the skin’s cells.
SqualAne on the other hand is a substance (derived mostly from olives and sustainable sugarcane), which is actually friendlier, safer and more beneficial for the skin.
Super moisturising and yet surprisingly lightweight, it’s a great emollient ingredient for all skin types, but especially those with dehydrated or combination complexions. It intensely hydrates without causing breakouts or clogging pores, making it one of our favourite ingredients to use in the colder weather when we don’t want to use rich creams to combat dryness.
