We were lucky enough to catch up with the brilliant and one of the most revered hairstylists in the world, Christophe Robin for our Pro Series campaign. His salon and line of products have become synonymous with healthy and radiant hair, with celebrities and models turning to him when their tresses need tending to.

10 Minutes With Christophe Robin

Q What inspired you to create the Christophe Robin range?
A
One of the first things I learned when I started coloring hair, was that without good care, the most beautiful color would never last. Sometimes I would need to change a model’s hair color up to 4 times in a month, imagine the damage! There were no products on the market that would protect the hair before all those color processes and then wash them in the most gentle way. So I created my own: my Moisturizing Hair Oil with Lavender and my Cleansing Mask with Lemon were my two first products 20 years ago and still are my essentials today.
Q What's the most important life lesson you've learnt so far?
A
To not take anything too seriously. I am incredibly lucky to be able to do the job I love!
Q Do you have any tips for aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners?
A
I always believe that celebrating other people’s success will bring you success, people follow positive energy.
Q What is the one hair item you cannot live without?
A
My Regenerating Balm with Prickly Pear Oil! I use it on my hair to tame it a little bit, but also everywhere else, sunburns, insect bites, dry hands…
Q Can you share a hair secret you swear by?
A
Before hitting the gym I always suggest to put some Lavender Oil on your hair. The fact that you exercise will help the oil penetrate in your hair giving you the most optimal care. Then gently wash. To make your hair super shiny however (and if you don’t mind the smell!), a last rinse with apple cider vinegar diluted in water always does wonders.
Q What is your favourite hair trend of the season?
A
I don’t really believe in hair trends. I feel colour aims at revealing one’s personality or moods through beautiful standards or crazier choices!
Q Can you share a favourite fashion week memory?
A
In 2002, Yves Saint Laurent’s last show at Beaubourg.
Q What are your haircare favourites for this Autumn/Winter?
A
Autumn is a time where you want to give your hair a little colour boost, especially after the summer months which might have turned it a little bit brassy. I always like to recommend my shade variation care line which provides deep care while restoring beautiful shades.
Q What hair faux pas do you see too often?
A
Not caring for your hair! The hair and scalp are very much like your skin, if you do not care for it, even the best make-up will not look its best!
Q If you had to pick one item from your collection what would it be and why?
A
Most definitely my Cleansing Mask with Lemon. It was the first product I created, it is an incredibly gentle shampoo, a deep conditioning treatment and locks in color thanks to its acid pH. I was thrilled to hear it won Allure’s Best of Beauty Award this year!
