Bridal Skincare Tips

Your wedding day is the day when you want to look and feel your very best. A big part of that is about the preparation. By looking after your skin and getting your bridal skincare routine sorted, you are guaranteed to glow on your wedding day. Who doesn’t want that?

We have quite a few brides-to-be at Lookfantastic HQ, so we asked them what they wanted to know about bridal skincare. If you aren’t already a skincare fanatic, it can be a little daunting to dip your toes into the world of exfoliators, AHAs and SPFs, so we have put together a list of skincare tips that will resolve all your bridal skincare concerns (as well as the products we swear by).

8 Ways to Get Perfect Skin for your Wedding Day

  1. Get started early

You don’t need to feel panicked if you haven’t started prepping your skin from the day you got engaged, but the longer you can give your skin to adjust, the better.

We would recommend that you start a proper bridal skincare routine at least 2 months before your wedding date. That gives your skin the chance to adjust to any new products and properly respond to their skincare benefits.

  2. Know your skin needs

It can be easy to get carried away and buy every product recommended to you on the counters when you are wanting everything perfect for your wedding day. However, the best skincare routine will be the one that works for you. Before you buy, step back and work out what your skincare needs are.

To get the most from your skincare, ask yourself a couple of questions. First, what skin type do you have? Dry, Oily, or Normal? Second, do you have any specific concerns, like redness, acne or fine lines? Once you know what your skin needs, then you can start searching for skincare which works for you.

  3. Sort the essentials

The fundamentals of a good skincare regime are a great cleanser, exfoliator and moisturiser. If you get these three sorted, your skin will show the results. Use your skin type as the basis for making your choice and get into a routine of looking after your skin every morning and evening.

It is entirely up to you whether you choose to mix and match brands or whether you prefer to stick one regime. For everything you need in one set, we really recommend looking into the Lancer Method. Developed by dermatologist Dr. Harold Lancer, the exfoliator, cleanser and moisturiser have been designed to work together to give you glowing skin and there is a version for every skin type.

  4. Target your problems

Serums and masks are where you can start targeting your skincare regime to your specific skincare problems.

Serums are amazing skin boosters because they contain much higher concentrations of skincare ingredients. Use them before your moisturiser, especially in the evening. One of our favourites right now is the Sarah Chapman Skinesis Stem Cell Collagen Duo. It is packed with peptides that help plump and smooth the skin for a radiant complexion.

Masks can help treat specific problems, especially things like congestion or dry skin. We adore the range of Origins masks as there is one for every skincare need. Plus, masks are a lovely way to wind down and relax for a few minutes.

  5. Add some acids

Acids sound much scarier than they need to. They actually have incredible skincare benefits. The ones seen in skincare most often are AHAs and BHAs.

AHA stands for Alpha Hydroxy Acid and this includes things like Glycolic Acid, Lactic Acid and Mandelic Acid. These work to help exfoliate dead skin cells without the need to scrub, and help reveal brighter, fresher skin. The cult Pixi Glow Tonic is a great Glycolic Acid toner which hydrates and brightens the complexion, although sensitive skin types might prefer Lactic Acids.

BHA stands for Beta Hydroxy Acid and is most usually in the form of Salicylic Acid. BHAs work to clear pores so they are incredible for those prone to blemishes and acne. The Paula’s Choice Clear Exfoliating Solution With 2% Salicylic is a great product which works to sooth redness and clear blackheads. These can be a little drying though so use once a day at first to see how your skin responds.

AHAs and BHAs both work best when applied after cleansing but before any of your serums or moisturisers.

  6. Always use an SPF

We know, everyone says this, but that is because it is true. Sun damage will undo all your hard work and can happen much more easily than you might think. Dull, lacklustre skin, dehydration and dark spots can all be a result of UV rays.

Whether you prefer to apply a sunscreen at the end of your skincare routine in the morning or to use makeup with a high SPF, just be sure to protect your skin. We love the Zelens Daily Defense Sunscreen and the Lancôme City Miracle CC Cream.

If you’re tempted to be bronzed for your big day, go the fake tan route and book yourself in for a spray tan about 3 days before your wedding, That will give time for any mishaps to be sorted and for your colour to adapt to a beautiful, natural looking tan.

  7. Time your treatments

A facial or a professional treatment like microdermabrasion can do wonders for your skin, helping to decongest and smooth the skin. However, they can also take the skin a little time to recover from.

To be sure that your skin is looking its best on your big day, steer clear of any invasive treatments or new products in the 2 weeks before your wedding. That way, if your skin does have any reactions, there is plenty of time for it to recover.

  8. Look after yourself

Skin responds to your lifestyle and stress levels. To help your skin look its best, try to take care of yourself. Eat well, keep hydrated and get good sleep. This can be easier said than done, but we have lots of tips that can help.

There are a whole host of foods and supplements that can help give you gorgeous skin from within, and if you are struggling to drift off,we know exactly what you need. To minimise stress, try to take time to yourself and relax when you can. Gentle exercise and doing more of what makes you happy will help you arrive on your wedding day feeling happy and calm. Enjoy your special day!
